Hey guys

Avoid these cab drivers in Santo Domingo.

These idiots wear Blue shirts and dark pants and hang out at the corner between the Hilton Hotel and the Malecon Center.

They gave me a quote of 300 pesos from the Hilton to the Jaragua. So I just walked.

The Apollo cab company seems to have much better rates.

Sorry for the confusion. I meant to say that one must avoid those taxi drivers in uniform (as you can see in the pictures).

I recommend that you take Apollo taxi's (another taxi company).

But avoid the taxi drivers in the above picture.

I tried calling your friend several times (I called both his cell and his landline).

Please give him my regards. Take care.

In their defense, the taxi drivers who hang out at the hotels have to take turns, so they sit there all day waiting for their turn to come up, and what happens? They get a guy that wants to go two blocks. What would YOU do?
So, they compensate by charging high prices. They charge for the convenience.
Cheeno is right, you can call apollo, or any taxi service in the yellow pages, and their rates will be much, much cheaper.
Not only that, but you can ask for, and get a rate, before you have them send the taxi.
So you get a rate, you say OK, send the taxi, when the taxi arrives, you confirm the rate before you get in...
Simple.
But leave the tourist taxis for the tourists..
