Migracion publishes new extended stay fees.

For non-resident tourist cardholders, the fee for staying from 61 to 90 days is now RD$2,500.

If a visitor wishes to extend their stay from three to nine months, they pay RD$4,000. To stay for a year, the fee is RD$5,000.

Still very inexpensive,try over staying in Colombia,over staying one day will cost you the same as over staying six months in the DR.

Looks like they extended the initial stay from 30 to 60 days. I remember paying out for stays longer than 30 days...... This works for me!!!

same with Jamaica.......and you can't stay more than 6 months in a Calendar year in Jamaica too......old law which will hopefully be changed someday

They can't count and ask me how many days I was in country. I was there 30 a time or two and said no say!

There are no new fees. There is a one change from the list of 1st November 2014 to reflect a reported new 60 day tourist card.

The Tourist Card is a tax the Dominican Republic charges its visitors. Its legal base rests on the Law 199-67, which establishes the acquisition of such card as a requirement to enter national territory, for tourism purposes, without the need of a consular Visa.
Law 199-67 establishes that the right to the Tourist Card is automatically lost if the beneficiary engages in lucrative activities while in Dominican territory. Furthermore, the inappropriate use of the Card will be sanctioned by the National Migration Authorities with immediate expulsion of the visitor from the country dispensing with any formalities. Foreigners wishing to enter the Dominican Republic for business purposes shall apply for a Business Visa, with one or multiple entries, at one of the many diplomatic and consulate offices overseas.

The Tourist Card allows a stay of 30 days in the country, after which, if wishing to stay longer, the Tourist can extend his or her stay paying a fee which will be proportional to the amount of time he or she wishes to remain in the country. If information on the matter is needed, contact the Ministry of Migration.
To obtain a Tourist Card the only requirements are a Valid Passport and the payment of aUS$10.00 or €10.00fee.
The Tourist Card is valid for a year from the date of purchase and is only valid for one person, who will only be able to use it once. The Tourist Card can be acquired at point of sale locations in land, air, or sea ports in the country; it is also available in Dominican embassies and consulate offices overseas and in Tour operating companies. It may also be purchased through the online portal at www.dgii.gov.do (http://www.dgii.gov.do/).

All tourists entering the Dominican Republic should purchase a Tourist Card except countries with which the Dominican Republic has previous agreements.
Tourist exempted from the Tourist Card purchase are:


Residents, Visa holders and Dominican nationals.
Foreigners arriving from Argentina, Chile, South Korea, Ecuador, Israel, Japan, Peru and Uruguay.
Diplomatic and Consular staff with assigned missions in the country, while they remain on duty.
Passengers using private, noncommercial aviation as long as the aircraft fulfills the following requirements: the trip must be for sport, leisure, executive, tourism and business purposes, and the aircraft must not weigh more than thirty thousand pounds (30,000) and have a maximum capacity of 12 passengers.
Haitian nationals having a card that validates their entry and exit of the country the same day. The use of this Card is fully explained under Art. 78 of the Migration Law .It also specifies that this card will only be valid in the Dominican province which borders the residence in Haiti of the holder .If not, a Tourist Card must be bought.




So what happens between day 31-60??? For those who need a Tourist Card, be prepared to pay 2500 pesos just in case.

Just checked through immigration at the Santiago airport, on my way OUT of the country. I asked the immigration officer how long the tourist card is valid for now, and she said 60 days.

So there you have it. The government just has to catch up with all their publications I guess.

I explained to them how it had been changed to

The discussion got pretty heated as I had had my full of the darme crap that goes along with being in the DR. To shut me up they ran me thru another line without paying extra. I was curious so I went back to the website today and sure enough they changed it back to 30 days..

So ,I am leaving from POP yesterday and I have 56 days on the ground... They ask me how many days and tell me I have to pay 2500pesos because I am over 30 days.....present me with a list of the tarrifs with no date on it.

I explained to them how it had been changed to

I recently had to return to the U.S. to take care of some business,I had been in the DR for 92 days. They told me that I had to pay 4000 pesos which was the correct amount,which I was prepared to pay and I gladly did. As soon as the guy had the money in his hands he whistled over to the two nearest "officers" and gave them each 1000 pesos before putting the other 2000 in his pocket. I love this country,hahaha.

I was there twice for 30 days. It was nice.

It's called transitioning to live there. Many live in DR 3-6 months at a time for a few years before moving there permanently.

yea living in any foreign country for 3-6 months gives you a good idea if you want to live der permanently......most times
though as far as myself....mi have been doing dat for quite a few years and haven't made the move to permanent residency in Jamaica

What you're doing might just be the best of both worlds. You build up the thirst for three months, then you go and slake it for the next three.

Got a question for you: Do you own that place on the lane, or do you just keep it locked down by leasing it year-round?

Yes I am confused too! But the reality of the situation is that the 2500 pesos is charged on departure after 30 days. Like many I had read that it was to be after 60 days. When I left in the summer the officer refused to give me a receipt so I suspect that the money went into his pocket. When I left from my last trip, a couple of weeks ago, it was the same story, "no receipts". My Spanish is getting better so I stood my ground and insisted on a receipt. The guy beckoned a woman over and I was taken to an office where a receipt was issued. I suspect a scam is going on.
