I stayed for 8 nights at Hotel Garant recently.

www.hotelgarant.com

- Booked through Booking.Com (first for me for DR lodging)

- Payment can be upfront or any time before checkout.

- Sheets and towels seemed to be of better quality than other hotels that I've stayed in.

- Security is there 24/7. They collect cedulas.

- Front gate requires key for entry and exit--chicas can't flee the scene etc.

- Location is a block and a half off Duarte. Close enough and away enough for peace and quiet at times.

- Kitchen is always open. Micorowave, forks or other items that you may need to use may be found.

- Water pressure is good. No water issues.

- Good wi-fi

- Pool is clean

- Very chica friendly and fun hotel, but very professional and service minded as well.

I linked their website. If you book directly and stay 7 nights, you get off about 12%.

This was the first and only hotel that I've reserved online in DR. After meeting the manager and owner, I have confidence in the integrity of their online reservations.

Villa Florencia in Boca and Acuarium Suites in Santo Domingo are both dependable for booking online.

Wierd though. With Acuarium they print your card and passport but you don't pay until you leave. VF wants cash up front which is a PITA at $100 a night for 1br and $150 for 2br. Travelling with over a grand in cash is not all that much fun, especially to poorer Caribbean countries.

In Jamaica I always prepay and show up with just a receipt like I do in the rest of the Caribbean. The D.R. has their own way of doing things.

Every place I have been in the DR I have always had to pay upon arrival and I always pay in cash.

I prefer it that way cause I sometimes spend more than I think I will and would hate to not have enough to pay the hotel bill at the end.

When I stay at Europa I normally prepay them cause they give a nice discounted rate for doing so.

But you send it to them via Paypal and didn't have any issues with it but have only stayed there once.

For some reason I just have never been able to become comfortable with using a credit card at all in the DR.

When I go to Asia most of my hotels are booked through Agoda or the hotel website and you have to give a credit card in order to reserve it.
Most of the Agoda reservations have been paid for prior to arrival. I have never had any problems in Asia and might not have any in DR either.
