All the food is prepared fresh to order. My dish for the night was Mahi Mahi with red beans and rice. There was a mixup and the waitress brought me salmon and rice but the order was corrected within 10 minutes, I am not sure if I got some one else's plate or not. The red beans and rice were EXCELLENT and the fish was not the best but it was decent. My plate was 700 pesos so it was more comparable to US prices. In fact almost everything on the menu was in that price range therefore this restaurant is not for the budget traveler. If you are a drinker you could easily drop 1500 pesos in the blink of an eye.

An American Vibe
The music is smooth jazz like you were in a nice jazz spot in Atlanta or New Orleans, I particularly enjoyed this since I am a jazz lover. There is nothing Dominican about this establishment other than the staff. I spoke with the owner and he advised almost all of his staff are tourism students in the University who are studying English. The staff was very friendly and professional...very un-Dominican...ROTFL!
The dining area is nice with an open air breeze and ceiling fans and there is plenty of space between the seating.
The night I visited was a bad night
There was heavy rain the first night I visited and the power went out on Pedro Clisante. The back up generator kicked in for Rumbas across the street but their generator didn't kick in for almost 15 minutes. It was a little unnerving sitting there in the dark. There was a mix up on my order and the bathroom is in desperate need of renovation. The toilet I used didn't flush.
I spoke with the owner and he advised the bathroom was in renovation and he would check on my other concerns.
My anecdotal assessment
Although my first experience was a bit disappointing the owner is the same individual who owns the Victorian House. When I was at the Victorian House he went out of his way to assist me with my concerns up-grading my room ect. The owner is very customer service orientated in fact he took the time to talk to me for over 15 minutes therefore I have confidence that the aforementioned issues will be addressed.
This is a very American spot from the food to the music to the prices. My impression was you are paying for the ambiance as much as the food. In reality the same set up in the United States the food might cost a little more.
There was a security officer present when I was there and all the staff were professional and polite.
The venue is a restaurant, bar and cigar room. It is a great place to do interviews if you met a classy PFP chic at Rumbas who could appreciate the ambiance. IMHO I would not dine there with a PFP chica because between 2 people for drinks and a meal you could drop 2000 pesos easily and for me I'd rather give a PFP chica a 300 pesos meal than a 1000 pesos meal especially since I am paying for her time. On the contrary if it wasn't for the venue being in the middle of Hoe town on the strip I would gladly take a civilian to an establishment such as that because I believe we would both enjoy ourselves.
I will definitely return and add more updates later.

Nice report as always
Who is the owner of VH now?
Is there just one owner?
At one point early on I heard Armando of Classicos fame was involved but assume he is no longer in active ownership there
Than I thought EL Rey was involved but is now doing his thing with a bar in PP and is also no longer involved
Dquick at some point was involved and assume still is
And I assume others are involved as well.
It will be interesting to see how that business model fairs in Sosua especially right in the middle of the strip where the retired couples might not want to hang out but perhaps that is not the intended market either.
I would assume they are targeting weekend warriors perhaps.
Although Bailey's is more expensive than alot of places and they seem to be doing ok at least on the surface it appears that way.

I do not know the owners full name nor am I aware of the exact business relationship that exist at both venues. The owner did tell me he had a partner but I did not enquire any further. The venue is not a mongering spot per-se so it could be very successful with non mongering clientele that like smooth jazz and Cajun cuisine.

The bar area looks like a nice spot forme to set up. I like to find new options close to Classico & Rhumba to be near, but not in those places. Looks like a good spot to bounce a chica to from the crowd.

How different men define classy is as different as the individual men who are defining it...after all one man's floor is another man's ceiling. The point of my comment was to say there are some women in Rumbas that because of their appearance as well as how they carry themselves would appear to fit better in Bourbon Street's ambiance.

I can see the weekend warrior types taking their "date" over there for dinner, so that they could at least on the surface make their time with a ho seem like a "classy" night out.
I predict a whole bunch of dinner orders featuring camarones!

What could be better than a $20 plate, a $30 cigar, an $18 martini and a $20 Ho and some sweet jazz in the background?
Sounds like a perfect night to me. ;)

Some WWs don't realize that sometimes there are regular (somewhat) couples or non-P4P dates in the restaurant eating. They see a place they think is nice and they're like ok, guess everybody takes a ho to this place.

Rumor has it that D'Latin will also re-open as a restaurant soon.
Supposedly a foreign investor has signed a lease agreement.
And Willy, El Chamo, is no longer interested in re-opening D'Latin as a night club because of his political ambition and the upcoming election.
P.S.: Political ambitions and being the manager of a nightclub that was closed for minors on premises don't jive too well in the Catholic DR.
Just to make that connection perfectly clear.

I've always been under the impression that if you paid for pussy you didn't have to take them to nice places to eat. I limit my contributions to inexpensive Dominican places or pizza. There's no need to do more.

The worst is guys that don't speak a word of Spanish that pull a chica that speak no English and they sit there looking stupid at a nice place. I guess they just want to hang around the chicas a little longer than needed because they think they look hot.
Most street chicas want you to get in and get out. Many don't even want to eat.
The only ones that I consider taking for a nice restaurant meal are some that I've known awhile and am likely to hang out for a few hours with them and sometimes I want to eat good food.
Any new chica, especially from the strip can eat when our session is over if that's how she choose to spend the pesos for that.

Winner, winner. Chicken dinner! :)
Even the girls do not enjoy the experience.
No matter for how long or little you have known them.
In the DR or Haiti, culinary arts are not highly priced/ revered.
Arroz y pollo. Rules.
One eats to survive another day.
At least at the lower rungs of DR society that this audience is accustomed to dealing with.

In Sosua most of my meals are Dominican food and I keep to around a 200 peso meal budget.
In BC, I spend a little more because I feel safer with Italian food because you have to get Dominican food early in the day or it's not so fresh. The restaurants don't make a lot of food or keep replenishing it like they do in Sosua. Good thing about have a microwave at the hotel was that the times that I did feed chicas, I took the leftovers back with me and had a good meal before going out at night, so it was worth it.

I 'am not sure if it's accurate to say the chicas do not enjoy a good meal. The alternative is to have sex for free with a Dominican, eat arroze con un chin de pollo & drink Presidentes or have sex for thousands of pesos with a gringo eat camarones & drink Coronas.
It is not just the money the girls have a problem walking away from it's the lifestyle they would not have apart from dealing with gringos.

This salmon dish comes with shrimp but since I do not eat shell fish I passed. The salmon was tasty however the red beans and rice were not as flavorable as the first time. My dish was 700 pesos.
The service was a little slow and my waiter was AWOL when I was ready to pay. This time I saw there were a few seats on the side walk for those who wanted to eat and enjoy the foot traffic.
I continue to enjoy the music and the overall atmosphere so I will return frequently when I am in the mood.

Bourbon Street Restaurant during the day
When I have some errands to run in the Sosua area sometimes I stop by Bourbon Street Restaurant during the day. The vibe is different it is not as busy and definitely muy tranquilo.

One of the things that has become popular is sitting on the sidewalk for chica watching while you are drinking or dinning. It is more popular at night to watch the chicas walk by and put on a show for you.

Bourbon Street was closed by the department of taxation.
Not a good thing
Is that the type of thing that gets them closed for good or is it more they pay the tax and pay a penalty and are allowed to reopen?
With their ties to ahnvee resort I wonder if they will be next in the cross hairs of the dept of taxation

Not a good idea to speculate . so i wont..
but if this is the VAT tax, and was never paid..

Geeze, looks like they even repo'd the sidewalk.....
Any bets this is also tied to being a chica hangout?

They are completing the sidewalk project on that side of the street now. Been a mess for a month or so.

I believe 6/7 years ago, the location that is now Bourbon St was called Sosua Life or it could have been El Toro.

I tell ya, I've always paid taxes as soon as I could to get them out of the way.
That shit accumulates quickly and can really put a damper on your day.

It was called Latino's and it had a disco in the back. Shit was nice!!!! Changed names to Gran Valerno when Ad got involved 2012/2013.
Here's the article for ya!

Then it changed names to El Toro in 2013. (Possibly new management). Then got raided and closed. A few underage girls allegedly were found on the premises. The building remained closed for a long time and would not reopen until it was rented as a restaurant, Bourbon Street in 2016.

I guess I missed spoke...I don't remember now. Thought it was Bourbon Street but as I think back with this fog of a 70 year old brain it was more then likely another place.
Fuck, I hope I was at least in a restaurant....Wasn't a bar that I remember. I belonged to that group that the ad on tv said "this is your brain on drugs.:corky:

I do remember when it was Latino/Sosua Life. Don't remember the Gran Velerno stage, probably was a short stint. Their demise coincided with the opening of D'Latin.

But the Mimosas are free.
I bet the 800 RD is before tax and service so it will likely be pushing 1,000 RD
Gonna need prime rib and crab legs on that buffet for it to be worthwhile for me but eggs several different ways is not gonna cut it for this guy.

I think one of the best places for breakfast is the Britannia. We ate there a lot before Irie bought it and he has kept up the great food and service.
Great fish and chips for dinner also.

Totally agree!
I had breakfast there in the late morning a couple of times last visit and with a couple cups of coffee, was good to go until early evening.
Excellent value. As far as Bourbon St, I'll give it a try when in town on my next visit and pay their price for what I assume is their specialties, the cajun bbq, fish and southern style cooking.
Never been a big brunch guy, it's either/or for me between breakfast and lunch.
And for breakfast, I'll stick with the Brit! :iconTU:

Bourbon Street is now collecting taxes
I eat at Bourbon Street often when I am in Sosua and as I can recall I have never seen taxes included on my bill. Recently my bill for the same meal was almost 20% more due to taxes.
While I was there I took some spy shots in and out of the restaurant. Security is not allowing the chicas to loiter in front of the restaurant like they used to.
Below is a picture of Milka the manager

I remember eating at Britannias 10 years ago when they had that British girl working as a waitress. I forgot her name, I wonder what ever happen to her.
My very first time in the DR was partly spent at Jack Tar Resort in Playa Dorada back in November 2003. I managed to sneak away from my girlfriend and spend an afternoon in Sosua to see if it lived up to it's billing. Ended up spending most of the afternoon sitting at the Brittania drinking and chatting with Barb and Linden, the original owners. Since then I have probably eaten hundreds of meals there.
Even though each successive owner had their own styles, they all managed to maintain the reputation the place had built up since it opened. From the reports I have heard from friends and what I have read on line, it sounds like Irie has continued to keep the Brittania at the top of the list for many expats and visitors.
