Cynthia Day, 49, and fiancé Nathaniel Holmes, 63, had been staying at the Bahia Principe hotel since May 25
A couple from Prince George’s county, Maryland, was found dead while vacationing in the Dominican Republic, relatives said. News4's Shomari Stone reports.

A couple from Prince George’s County, Maryland, were found dead while vacationing in the Dominican Republic, relatives said.
The bodies of Cynthia Day, 49, of Upper Marlboro, and her fiancé Nathaniel Holmes, 63, were found Thursday in their room at the Bahia Principe hotel at the resort Playa Nueva Romana, in the southeast coast of the island, The Dominican Today, a local newspaper, reported (https://dominicantoday.com/dr/local/2019/05/31/us-tourist-couple-found-dead-in-hotel-room-no-signs-of-violence/).
Sonya Jackson, Cynthia’s sister, told News4’s Shomari Stone that the U.S. Embassy confirmed the couple was found dead in the resort.
Day and Holmes, who according to relatives were engaged, had been staying at the vacation spot since May 25, The Dominican Today reported. They were supposed to fly back home on Thursday.

Holmes’ sister said she talked to him a couple of days ago, and he told her he “was having a great time.”
The bodies showed "no signs of violence," according to The Dominican Today. Investigators have not determined the cause or manner of death.
Dajuan Holmes-Hamilton, Nathaniel Holmes' daughter, said she wants the mystery solved.

"It should have never happened," she said.

Natural causes, nothing to see, move along....

Two of them? A 63 and 49 year old die of natural causes together at the same time in the same Dominican resort and that's not fishy?

Nahhhhhhhhhh I suspect there is more to the story...

I was being sarcastic but the initial report is pulmonary edema for both of them and they both had high blood pressure.

Might just have been natural causes related to the long flight, resort activities, bedroom activities and/or bad health.

Not to step into Westy's territory but scuba diving can also cause pulmonary edema especially if they are new to it and had a lousy instructor or guide.

True! I'm not going to go into detail -- because if you don't dive, you don't need to worry about it, and if you dive, you've been schooled about it.

Were the decedents scuba-divers? Remember, there are a LOT more reasons to incur pulmonary edema. It's not even mentioned in my NAUI Advanced manual.

The few times I dived, I was happy to come up blowing bubbles.
Didnt realize I was claustrophobic till I was stuck in a cenote river in Mexico for a couple of miles. Was so glad to surface for air.

That is very deep?

Westy

That is very deep?
No, not deep -- it's a question of distance covered underwater, especially distance covered beyond the light, which is crucial.

My first dive, after passing my open-water tests and getting my 'Scuba Diver' certification-card, was a guided cavern dive in Ginnie Springs, Florida. The drowned caves of west-central Florida are very much like the cenotes of the Yucatan Peninsula -- formed by underground rivers that occasionally break out to the surface as 'sinkholes' (Yanqui) or 'cenotes' (Mexicano). A "cavern dive" means a dive that never goes far-back enough that you lose sight of the light at the opening of the cavern, so you can always see your way back to the surface -- unless you kick up enough bottom-silt to obscure that view. A vital part of learning cavern-diving -- and wreck-diving -- is learning to kick so you DON'T stir up the silt; another vital lesson is how to run a "wayback line," which you can follow back to the opening you entered at the start of the dive.

Cave-diving -- going 'beyond the light' -- is a far-riskier sort of diving, because if you get lost and you run out of air, 'Cancel Christmas!' It is a "technical diving" specialty that requires rigorous training and exacting preparation, before you pass this sign....

That's better. I guess you could stay in sight of the light, that way. But it's a hell of a place to learn you've got claustrophobia.

Don't get me wrong they all want money but I can see the appeal of Sosua from a chica's point of view.

Namely the Dom Yorks/NYC Club crowd coming down and popping bottles.

From what I've seen, they start out in La Capital, the hot ones get chosen for Punta Cana and they go to So-Sewer to burn out. Working Santo Domingo offers many a way out of the game before they get too deep into it. It's not just the Gringo tourists that get caught up in the "sav-a-ho" syndrome. There is an aging middle class there which is in need of side pieces. It's part of the culture.

And now, Number 4, this time in Punta Cana ... reported by The Sun (https://www.thesun.co.uk/) in Britain:

Fourth mystery death in Dominican Republic as US tourist 'urinates blood and dies after drinking one whisky at luxury resort' (https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/9259245/fourth-mystery-death-in-dominican-republic/)

Robert Bell Wallace, 67, became sick and urinated blood after he had one whisky from his room minibar at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Punta Cana.

His mysterious death comes as three other US tourists were found dead in their rooms in another hotel on the Caribbean island.

Nearly 180,000 Brits visit the country for a sunshine break every year, but the biggest market for tourism is by far the US with more than 2m Americans visiting the island.

Miranda Schaup-Werner, 41, from Pennsylvania, died on May 25 after she had a drink from her minibar at the Bahia Principe La Romana.

Five days later an engaged couple from Maryland, Edward Holmes, 63, and Cynthia Day, 49, were also found dead in their room.

Dominican authorities said post-mortem examinations revealed they all died of natural causes.

But the families are searching for answers....
