The Department of Non-Conventional Energy at the Ministry of Industry and Commerce is due to finish installing solar panels in rural communities in seven border provinces by the end of the month. The project is expected to benefit 10,000 families. The RD$300 million project will benefit the poorest inhabitants of the provinces of Monte Cristi, Dajabon, Elias Pina, Pedernales, Independencia, Baoruco and Santiago Rodriguez. A further RD$13 million will be given to supply electricity to 50 other communities.
