Warning - "Mikey" on Conde

Just a word of warning to any newbies in Santo Domingo (not sure if this has been posted previously, so want to be sure the word gets out).

If you decide to spend a little time on Conde, you will have a good time and see lots of good looking girls who might just be interested in spending some quality time with a gringo.

However, if you've been on the stree for long enough (i.e., more than one hour) and you look like a gringo, there's probably a guy on the street who's going to find you. His name is Mikey or Mike (goes by both). He is a short, little Dominican guy who wears a Yankee's cap all of the time. He says he's been working Conde for 5 years. He's the friendly type (actually, a pretty good guy), but he makes his living doing what he does - escorting guys to the clubs and/or finding them dates. He has several chicas that he can call for you. The chicas that I saw were pretty nice....you can have them TLN....and the price is right. BUT.........and you knew there had to be a catch......lots of Mikey's girls don't carry ID. Soooooo.....if you are interested in one of his girls.......beware. If your hotel requires ID....or you just want to see it for peace of mind (as you should).....be sure to ask the chica (or have Mikey ask the chica) to show you her ID BEFORE you take her. With Mikey, it's cash upfront. The risk is not in losing your money....or having the chica short-change you....from what I could see. The risk is getting to your hotel and finding out that she dosn't have ID.

Obviously, veterans will likely avoid a guy like Mikey and try to strike a better deal working directly with the ladies. But for new guys, finding someone like Mikey might be OK....as you can get more time for much less money than going to the clubs and casas. Just be sure to check that ID upfront. If she doesn't have it, ask her to go get it. If she won't....or doesn't have one....you don't want any part of her.

And if you see Mikey on Conde.....tell him that the gringos are on to him and the word has been posted on the net. Nothing wrong with being a pimp....just deliver.

I am guessing Mikey speaks English, number one rule: never trust anyone who speaks English in SDQ, 99% chance they spent time on Riker's Island or another fine insitution in the US before receiving a one-way plane ticket back to the DR!

He did time here in the states(new york) and was booted when released.

I avoid him mainly because i consider him a pest and don't need him to find me chicas that he doesn't really know. He's not even a good pimp because those are not his chicas. He basically walks up to a chica and tells her that he has a friend(you) that's looking for a chica. He tells her he will hook her up for a cut of the money. But i can do this myself without Mikey.

I've also seen mongers make eye contact with him and that's all it takes for him to be their new best friend. He won't leave their side and will stalk them by waiting outside the hotel. He's harmless, just a PEST!!!!!

This guy is a bigger problem than you guys realize. Just AVOID any touts/pimps in SDQ unless it is a recommended cab driver from a member. I read on another website this little vermin set up a few gringo's with drugs, so avoid him.

A buddy of mine dealt with this guy.Michael set him up with a girl and when they went to the room she would'nt do anything.Big scam!I have heard nothing good about this guy but he's always on the Conde looking for his next victims.On DR1 there are negative posts that refer to him as Miguel.I know cheeno has made many posts about him here as well.

There is a guy just like this that hangs out INSIDE the Jaragua lobbly area. He wants to show u the latest hot places to meet chicas, hook u up with mary jane(even though u tell him not interested) .He is there all the time in the lobby, & back entrance. He must know someone in the hotel, otherwise I cant understand how it would ever be tolerated.
Hes short about 5' 6",thin ,sort of a glowing baby face too,clean shaven. He only understands a few words of english though.
He even had the nerve to ask if he can"take us " to the place weve been to like 10 times already,so he could get his cut.The doormen all know us there anyway. These guys are pests and I avoid them like the plague, cause if the locals see u with them, im sure the "dumb Gringo" light goes on in their heads and the prices go up accordingly.
I would rather give my$ to a cabbie, if info was needed. At least they are driving around, earning an honest living ,and u wont have to deal with them ever again if u dont want to .

Sounds like a lot of you know this guy. I concur with psrichaes 100%. He is a pest....and it takes a lot of wasted time and effort to shake him. He's always "got a girl for you." Yeah, right.

PS - he never offered me drugs. Don't need him. But based on what was said....glad that was the case.

There are two of those in STI. One of them is a guy about 5'8 speaks perfect English says he has a gf in the States. I think ErikS wrote about him as well giving tours and such about the Monument and offers walking tours. I admit he got me for 1300 pesos. There is another that can be found anywhere in downtown STI slender fellow always wears a pair of jeans with a hole in them. He was pretty cool and showed me a new area in Santiago but still someone to avoid.

For those of you who are new to Santo Domingo, there is no need to hire a tour guide or a cab driver (unless it is late at night and you want a safe ride back to your hotel).

Directions to El Conde, casino's, casa's, places to find chica's, are all here in this site.

Avoiding tour guides and cab drivers will save you a lot of time, money and stress.

There is a teenager name "Michael" (Mike, Mikey), who hangs out at El Conde.

He is around 5'5" or 5'6", dark-skinned, fat, dark and short curly hair, and speaks fluent English.

He usually wears blue jeans and a shirt with a team logo (e.g. L.A. Lakers or NY Yankees).

He's a trouble-maker who plays too much mind games. He claims that he can hook you up with a chica. Not worth it.

Does anyone know how old he is? If he is old enough, I'll take a picture of him and post it here.
