President signs municipalities bill

President Leonel Fernandez signed the recently passed municipalities bill that eliminates the bureaucratic role of the Dominican Municipal League as middleman for funding of city governments. The municipalities will now receive their funds directly from the National Treasury. Last week the Chamber of Deputies passed legislation that removed all fiscal responsibilities from the hands of the LMD, converting it into an advisory body.
