Hey guys :)

For those of you who travel around the DR by bus, then I highly recommend "Metro".

I took a bus from Santo Domingo to Santiago. It costs only 220 pesos.

The bus has A/C, a bathroom, and the seats are comfortable. But there is no TV.

But keep in mind, the bus will LEAVE ON TIME.

For example, if you have a departure time of 1pm, the bus will LEAVBE AT 1PM!!!

Anyway, I highly recommend the Metro.

The Metro bus will leave on time.

For example, it the bus leaves at 12pm, then it will leave at 12 SHARP!!! So make sure you arrive to the bus station on time!!!

The bus ride is also a nice place to meet girls. lol :)

In December of 2005, I took the Metro Bus
from Santo Domingo
to Santiago.

I think the bus ride was 220 pesos.
It had A/C (a bit too strong so make sure you
have a long-sleeve shirt with you.

And the Metro Bus was a non-stop ride from Santo
Domingo to Santiago.

This time, I took the Caribe.......*sigh*

The Caribe tour did not have a non-stop ride from
Santo Domingo to Santiago. It made a stop at La "Something".
I forgot the name of the city. This city
was around 20 minutes away from Santiago.

The A/C was also strong so make sure you
bring a long-sleeve shirt with you.

I think the Metro had more leg room.

Anyway, I prefer the Metro.

yea metro rocks I used it from Peurta Plata to Santiago only 70 pesos and the buses are loaded with normal people to chat with. The 90 minute ride goes by quick for under 2 bucks US its well worth it.Take a moto or local cheap taxi from Sosua to Metro station in Puerta Plata and you have a cheap ride to Santiago. Ill definitely use it again.

Hello gdogg, how are you doing? :)

Yes, I prefer Metro because of the following reasons.

#1. Metro had a little bit more leg room.

#2. Caribe Tours had music on during the whole trip (from Santo Domingo to Santiago). So I had trouble trying to sleep.

#3. Both the Metro and Caribe Tours have the A/C a bit too strong. So make sure you have a long-sleeve shirt or light jacket with you.

#4. The Metro is a non-stop route from Santo Domingo to Santiago. Caribe Tour made one stop.

#5. From Santiago to Santo Domingo, I took the Caribe Tour again, and they had a boring 1960s clip on TV. Again, I was unable to try and get some sleep because of the TV.

#6. At the station in Santiago, Metro leaves every hour. And the Caribe Tour leaves every 30 minutes. Both stations are very close to each other (about a 3-minute walk).

#7. (On my trip from Santo Domingo to Santiago), The Caribe Tour makes two stops in Santiago. I got out on the first stop. My friend was waiting for me at the second stop. So make sure you know which station you get out of.

#8. During my trip from Santiago to Santo Domingo, the Caribe Tour made five stops. The fifth and final stop is at the main station. When I took the Metro Bus in December of 2005, it was a non-stop ride from Santiago to Santo Domingo.

If I had to choose between the two, I would rather pay 50 pesos more and take the Metro.

Metro > Caribe Tour

Thanks, that gives me another option.

What about the luggage with a taxi publico? Extra charge? Does it go in the trunk or on your lap?

Cost from Puerto Plato to Sosua?

I would walk out the treminal, grab a taxi, not tourist taxi, pay the 200 or 250 and go.

The Metro bus always leaves on time.

For example, if the bus is scheduled to depart at 2pm, then it will depart at 2pm sharp!!!

Not only is it a cheap method of transportation, but you can meet up with girls in this bus.

I wholeheartedly agree. I took the bus back in August from Puerto Plata to Santo Domingo to apply for my residency, and it was a really nice way to go.

I believe at that time it was about US 8.00 or so to go. We stopped in Santiago and was able to get off of the bus, have a smoke, grab something to eat and drink, and was on our way. My recollection is that it took 3 1/2 hours from POP to SD. I was impressed with the condition of the bus, as well as its operation. As you said, if they say they're leaving at a certain time, the leave.

Metro Tours expands

The long-standing conflict between the private taxis/buses and the big bus companies Caribe Tours and Metro Tours has finally been resolved, to the advantage of the latter.
During the second meeting with representatives of the transport union and delegates from Caribe Tours and Metro Tours, the chairman (César José De los Santos, governor of the province) announced the final decision: 'It is in the best interests of tourism and the many residents of Sosúa, Cabarete and surrounding areas, that we have a good bus service in this popular tourist area, and good connections to the rest of the country. This is vital to the development of the north coast'.
The governor has therefore given Metro Tours permission to expand its current bus schedules, with a service from Puerto Plata to Sosúa and Cabarete.

A follow-up meeting will discuss the interests of the smaller bus and taxi companies, and how their interests can best be protected.
