A MAN accused of murdering a brothel owner was caught on security cameras removing a body from a Melbourne apartment building the day she disappeared, a Victorian court was told today.

Brothel madam Xiou Ling Liang, also known as Shirley X Liang, 44, was last seen at her inner suburban Southbank apartment on February 24, 2006.

Her body has never been found.

Her partner, Neil Cameron Chalmers, 48, has been charged with her murder.

Victorian Supreme Court was told today that Ms Liang managed Studio 146, a brothel in south Melbourne, and also ran an escort agency.

Prosecutor Peter Rose told the jury that Mr Chalmers and Ms Liang shared an apartment.

Mr Rose told the court Mr Chalmers was seen on security footage from the couple's apartment block propping open the door to the level two carpark at 4.48am on February 25, 2006.

He leaves and comes back "with a body covered by a sheet", Mr Rose told the court.

A police examination of the satellite navigation unit in Mr Chalmers' car showed he travelled along the Tullamarine Freeway before arriving at Tallarook, north of Melbourne, about 6.16am the same day.

Mr Rose said Mr Chalmers had engaged in "bizarre behaviour" by posing as a Chinese businessman in emails to Ms Liang inquiring about her services in the months before she died.

When Ms Liang disappeared in February 2006, Mr Chalmers told her co-worker Michael Esenyel that she had gone on a $10,000 two-week escort job with a Chinese businessman.

The court was also told that Mr Chalmers left a note on Ms Liang's pillow the night she disappeared, saying he was concerned about her going on the two-week escort job.
