I will be staying in Cabarete for 4 weeks and am looking to reduce costs.

Here are a number of places I found on the internet that look like they are under $40/night in Cabarete.

My requirements are simple: clean, internet, AC, sturdy bed. I guess internet is not absolutely necessary since Cabarete seems to have many wifi spots, but would be nice. On the beach, pool, etc would be nice but not absolutely necessary.

Does anyone have any opinions on any of these places? I am trying to scratch unlikely candidates from the list, since I plan to go to Cabarete to check as many out as I can before deciding.

Thanks!

Last year when I was in Caberete I knoticed the internet places charged about 60-80 pesos an hour. I don't know any of those hotels. There is a hotel called Teddies that was very clean and cheap also.

you might find it cheaper to book a room for 1 or 2 nights and go scouting for the rest of the time. This way you can see the rooms before paying and can even negotiate a lower price if you see the place is empty. From what I have heard this years low season is really slow and some businesses are very hurting for money. This could work in your favor if they see they can rent a room for a month with a customer and money right in front of them.

I'm renting Oct 16-Nov 11. Is that the down season?

So far the best rate I have seen is $600 for a month ($20/day) for a condo (seems to be the owner who is renting it out).

I plan to scout it out on the 16th, hopefully it will be ok, but I also want to have a few back ups in case it is no good.

I guess I can get a temporary place for a day or two if the $600 condo doesn't work.

Try Cite del Sol (right in the center of Cabarete) for accommodation....the rate they advertise is $500/month...maybe just walk in and negotiate.

Cabarete is dead at the moment, very little action anywhere. The best bar, Onno's is currently closed for refurbishment and may re-open in 2/3 weeks Domincan time.

Some of the Cabarete chicas are hitting Sosua.

Hmm... I can think of someone who can check it out for you before you get there...........

Is this just a seasonal downturn or is it a general trend on the north coast? The way I see it, might not be so bad. A desperate, hungry chica has got to be easier to negotiate with.

Certainly seasonal and I believe a general trend for Sosua/Cabarete.

Just a few tips:

Try the website www.Activecabarete.com (http://www.Activecabarete.com) There you will find links to several hotels of various cost. Try Royal Residence. I own a Condo there. This Place is less than a year old. So quality is great. As of now they don't have any rules against Chicas, but you can't have any wild puta pool parties.

Hotel Kaoba is just down the block and across the street from Royal Residence. The location is central to all the fun. It looks ok from the outside but I have never seen the rooms. I have been down to the pool area and it looked unkept.

Hotel Isla Verde. This Hotel is in Cabarete east. about 3-4 miles past Cabarete. I went there looking for a different hotel that I saw for sale on the internet (just looking). I saw hotel Isla Verde next door to the hotel I was in search of. When I approached the door, a near by security guard told me that it was a private club and they don't take walk ins. This only peaked my interest. So when I got to a computer, I googled Hotel Isla Verde. It turns out that the place is advertised as a Gay Friendly hotel. I guess the security guard did me a favor by not letting me in.

Hope this helps. Good Luck with your search.

Update: I checked with Royal and they said $1,000 for the month for 2-bedroom apartment w/ cable tv, internet, ac, and maid service twice a week.

Just a few tips...
Thanks, this is great info! Too bad Hotel Kaoba does not appear to be maintaining their facilities. I just looked at Royal Residence and their low season rate was $50/night. But I will try to dicker with them for a lower rate.

Hotel Isla Verde... is advertised as a Gay Friendly hotel.
Maybe that means they will keep it nice and tidy and serve good breakfast.

$1,000 for a month that's too high. Did you ask them how much for a one bedroom? Do you have to have 2 bedrooms?

Anyone going to Cabarete in Nov, Dec, Jan. I'm concidering renting out my place since I will not be there during that time. Long term only. So if you need a room for a day or to don't bother. If so PM me with question.

I wound up getting a condo (bedroom, kitchen, living room, pool, cable, internet, laundry machine, etc) for $225/week right outside of Cabarete. Some minor problems (AC doesn't work) but I will get a reduced rate for the time that the AC was inoperative. Since the weather has been cool hasn't mattered too much.

Hotel Kaoba is dismal, although they do have very cheap rooms in the $20 range, if you can bear mold, mosquitos, etc.

Sans Souci advertises for $12, $14, and $20 in a number of places, so cheap options abound.

Nicer places start in the $60/$70 range.

There are two nice bakeries/cafes down town in case you get tired of beans and rice for breakfast.
