First, I would like to wish everyone a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year.

Secondly, I would like to clarify some of the rumors ( sometimes vicious ) about the problems at Blackbeards.

Owning and operating a safe and secure, full service hotel is difficult to do in any country around the world. The Dominican Republic is no exception! Palace John and Mr. Happy can attest to this fact. They have been here a lot longer than I.

Yes, I am experiencing some “out of the ordinary” problems that I will detail in full. I can assure you however, that these difficulties have not and will not affect the hotel or any of my loyal customers.

The details are as follows:

Blackbeards Beauties Internet Photos
As many of you know, the local government and Department of Tourism are being pressured by several countries to “clean up their image”. As such, I thought it would be prudent to temporarily remove this page. In the near future, I will be adding a Bikini Contest page to our main website.

Mercedes
As many of you know, Mercedes was the Mama San for over a year. Three months after she quit, she hired a lawyer to sue me for severance pay. As she was never an “employee”, I refused to pay. I took the case to court and we are waiting for a verdict. This was a completely false and frivolous lawsuit !

Jenni – The Ex -Blackbeards Bartender
Jenni worked for me for over 1 ½ years. When faced with disciplinary action for not doing her job, she decided to quit. She then convinced a local lawyer to sue me for “Defamation of Character via the Internet”, simply because her picture was on my website under “Our Friendly Staff”. Well it turns out that she was “friendly” and was very active in her “extracurricular activities”. Had I known this, she would have been fired on the spot. As I refuse to be blackmailed, I am currently fighting this in court.

Marlene – An Ex- Chica from Blackbeards
Marlene “plied her trade” here for over two years before I tossed her out for causing too many problems. It turns out that she had been using a false ID and was, in fact, underage. The father tried to blackmail me. I refused and went to court. The case has been settled and is over.

Needless to say, I urge you to avoid these three as they are poison.

Finally – Does Blackbeards make any money from the Chicas
The answer is Absolutely Not! Never have, Never will. All of the chicas here are recruited by the Mama Sans who in turn are paid directly by them. The Chicas pay RD$500 every two weeks. Again, we receive no compensation whatsoever.

Look at unemployment here. Even if the employee is 100% in the wrong, and judged to be at fault for being fired, they stilll can collect full unemployment after eight weeks.

After visiting once, I can only say good things about BBs. Place was very well run, management was very helpful and friendly and I experienced no problems whatsoever. Food was really good too, and much to my relief, I was not overcharged on the last day when I squared up my bill.

Hope everything is still running smooth when I return in April.

Don't forget that the age of consent in the DR is 18, which is higher than a lot of countries. Still, as a regular at BBs I am still surprised that Marleny was less than that.
