Maybe its just me but it seems everyone who stays at BB is paying more that the going rate 750-1250 short stay 1500- 2000 all nighter is this true is there any haggling to be done at BB you do you just have to swallow your spit?

Big--

Last year when I stayed at BB the rates (I wish I could think of a gentler term) were 500 more for LT or ST than the freelancers in Sosua or Boca, and it sorta sound like that is still the case. But I've not been to the DR lately so its a guess based on recent posts. The extra cost at the time I felt was worth it because I felt that first the girls were right there, and second I didn't have to worry about my safety as far as ending up with a psycho chica in my room. My last trip I was not impressed with the girls looks, a lot of them were new and not that great, but lately reports indicate there's enough lookers. Assuming the selection is OK, you get some safety and convenience for the premium on the price. I will not be staying there but if I was, I think 3000 for overnight is a bit high, I might try to make it 2500, which at the present exchange rate makes it the same in dollars as what I paid last year.

I was there in June. The rates are 1500 for a short stay and 3000 or all night and yes, those prices are negotiable.

Back when the peso traded at 34 I paid 2000 for all nighters and 1000 for short time. Now that the peso is at 44, it should be roughly 1300 and 2600 for ST and LT. Instead of 1500 and 3000.

True this is equivilant to a ten dollar price hike, and many would say big deal. I sorta agree. But BB prices were higher than the freelance scene to begin with, and I think all of those girls are basically freelancers, they just happen to be at BB.

I don't know, hard to make a conclusion. I think I would try to bargain down a little just for my pride if nothing else. Last year I did not bargain but I was paying the rates that everyone on the web sites reported. Now the reported rate is a little out of line. And I think I know why. Just a theory.

If you take the ST and LT rate in dollars from last year, 30 and 50, and multiply by the exchange rate from early this year which was 50 or so, what do you get? The BB rates today--- even though the peso is now at more like 44. And it sounds like the freelance scene elsewhere did the same, more or less. I'm not picking on BB especially here.

Again, to those who say this is much ado about very little, I sorta agree. But the real point is that what I feared most when the peso plunged against the dollar has come true. The chica prices went up to match, then the peso gained against the dollar, and the chica prices stayed ratcheted up. Right now the difference is small, but what happens if the new president fixes things up enough so that the peso starts trading at 30, or 20 to the dollar like it did not very long ago.

SHIT!!!!

Not here, it attracts flies and little kids with spoons!

On a positive note DR1 has been talking about the recent drop and looks like it was a fluke, saw 43.50 in Santo Domingo today on the boards. Of course there will be a drop after Aug 15th when everyone believes Leonel will be able to turn around the country in a week! Of course that will last about a week or two.

PS Just opinion (except DR1 exchange posts)

So do you think I should change as much money as I can on the 14th?

Your best bet is to stick with to guns for negotiating. If we have been paying 1500 ST for a Palace Chica at 45-1, then pay 1300 if it's 40-1, 1150 if 35-1. I can only speculate but the rate will probably start dropping a week or so before the 15th so the 14th will be to late. You might lose a few bucks with food & beer prices but chicas are negotiable.

If you can't speak Spanish print out a card that explains the rates to chicas in Spanish. Of course then you have the problem of them being able to read it.

I dont see how this has anything to do with Blackbeards but IMO, i think the rate will shoot up sometime around november when everyone realizes Leonel isnt going to help out much... i guess it depends on when you are going to be there or not after August and how long after... i have 9000 pesos saved from last trip so i honestly want that shit to drop to 20 to 1 by November! i got it at 49 to 1 when i was there memorial day

Brooklyn-

I was answering Bigsexx's question about whether BB charges more, and perhaps why, and also whether rates are negotiable. And why he should negotiate.

For sure I expanded the discussion beyond that. To some extent I was letting off steam. Throughout my six trips last year when the peso was dropping I was not enthused about it for various reasons.

I had not thought of opening this subject in the Exchanging Money forum but perhaps it belongs there. I will start a thread there.

I understand. I feel better now!

Guy's, c'mon. Is it necessary to negotiate to save $5 or $10 ? Don't be greedy. What can you get here for $60. a night? Damn, the GFE alone is worth the $60. Don't make North Americans look bad. I learned that the girls have to 'kick back' to the hotel, so consider that. You may be able to lower the girls price since she may need the cash, and the ratio of girls to men is high (competition), but do you want to take advantage? The Chicas can't adjust their prices everyday based on the exchange rate. Sometimes it goes in our favor. I was there recently, and the price is 1500 ST and 3000 all night. Remember, the 3000 can actually be all day since the Chica will want to hang with you; if you're cool.

Some want them around and others don't. A meal is around $5-$10. No big deal really.

Some enjoy this part of the game and others agree with you.

mm--

Some of us like to know what the going rate is beforehand. It isn't being cheap, it's simply having some idea of what the chicas expect. The worst thing a guy can do pricewise is to ask a chica how much. Best to know the average rate and offer it.

Also, something goes unsaid here. For myself, and I think most of us, we are not looking to UNDERPAY either. I had a chica on one trip who for some reason agreed to half the average rate. Maybe she was in a jam. She was nice looking and a very nice date, and in the morning I gave her the going rate anyway.
