Deaths at Playa Chiquita Casino

A friend of mine got a call today from an amiga in the DR. She claimed that her brother had been killed Monday night (10/29/07) while visiting the casino. She was too upset to provide much information that he could understand. I don't think this is a money scam because she's good people, he's known her for a couple of years, and met the brother who lived in Cabarette. In seeking confirmation I called another friend who lives in Sosua. He had been in STI since Saturday and had just returned today so he had no info to share. However, he did say that one of the waitresses at the casino had been killed about 10 days ago by a novio who was a former security guard there. Apparently she was shot soon after exiting the employee bus after arriving at work The novio, according to my friend, commited suicide the following day. I've searched both Dr1 and Sosua News for additional info, but have come up empty. Can anyone there now or who has been there in the last couple of weeks provide any information in regard to either of these events?

We happened to be in town when the shootings occured during our october invasion, and yes it was a murder suicide related to employees, as that is what the head security guy told me the night i was there playing roulette

A guy down there told about it earlier in the week. He didn't have any details, there is just a story around town about someone being shot at the casino.

Does anyone know which waitress if was? I'm shocked. With as much time as I spent in the casino I think of all of them as friends.

I was at the New Garden and Willy was watching the news on the TV. He stated that it was a friend of his.

Is there some reason no one posted this info before today? Many of us visit the casino and have made many aquaintances with the staff there. Might someone have thought we would be interested in a tragedy taking place there that may have involved someone we knew? In the scheme of things this is a lot more important than who fucked Malika.

the reports at first were so messed up, someone actually started a rumor that it was the casino owner and his girlfriend that were killed, but that turned out to be incorrect

I dont know about this past week but the week before while I was in town apparently a casino security guard was jealous of his girlfriend and shot her. She was taken to Puerta Plata hospital. I am not sure why he wasnt arrested on the spot but was told it was being investigated and the police were looking for him. After his visit to the hospital and finding out his girlfriend had died and the police wanted him for murder he supposedly went back to the casino and committed suicide.

I do not personally know the people involved and this incident is over a week old. So if your incident of someone being shot is more recent then it could be something else.

The stories were flying around town and changed quite a bit from person to person so take that with a grain of salt as well.

out of my 7 trips to Sosua, that is the 2nd time I have been in town during a casino shooting.. last time I was in the casino disco as it happened outside...

that ran across my mind as well...its the next best thing to go to in sosua when all the clubs close, if that gets wiped off the map...then what :confused: its actually quite pleasant in there...a good break if u dont want to hear overly loud disco music, i particularly enjoy kicking it at an empty black jack table with a girl and just talking and hanging out...:rolleyes:

it would suck if that place closed because of violence and negative press :(

There was a security guard klled at the Costa Atlantico (Malecon Puerto Plata) on Saturday night ..... after it was closed during robbery

I heard about the Playa Chiquita... and have asked around as I know most of them... but did not get a straight answer who it was

JD_Mine told me that he heard it was two security guards in the parking lot of the casino, and that while the issue was over females, no women were killed.

Obviously many different stories here though? :confused:

I heard the story from two different girls. One was kinda vague like ErikS above describes. That came from Mariela who works at Herman's at the beach. Then last tuesday a girl I've know for two years told me more details. Apparently the girl who was killed had met a german guy and was ready to move to germany with him. The dominican husband/boyfriend of the girl was not amused by that, shot her at the casino and killed himself afterwards. Apparently she was a waitress there and he a security guard?

The casino staff has both their employee badges in the main cashiers station near the card tables. She was not one of the regular floor waitress based on my recollection. I could only surmise that she primarly worked in and around the bar. He looked somewhat familar, but in the photo he was wearing a hat so I did not clearly recognize him. Could not find out how many people were present at the time of the murder. My suspicion is it was probably quite a number because to my knowledge there is on one arrival and departure of the employee bus. In that regard one of my favorite dealers, Gracie, looked like she was suffering from PTSS. She is usually bubbly and in good spirits. She barely smiled during here dealing round and did not even say hello or give me grief as she frequently does. She just looked like she was in a state of shock and simply going through the motions. One of the other waitress who I always flirt with responded to my comments about hearing there had been problems there with a simple "Si, muchas problemas" and a nervous laugh.
