Thanks DT, same place I got my info. It seems the currency convertors online are usually off by a few pesos from what you will get on the street.

It was 34.80 yesterday when i checked on Oanda.com... it couldnt really have gone down that much so quick... In Santiago the rate is always better!

When I arrived at the airport in Santo Domingo (last Sunday, March 26th), the airport had an exchange rate of 32 pesos for 1 US Dollar.

That same day, the Intercontinental Hotel and the Jaragua Casino gave only 30 pesos for 1 US Dollar.

Today (March 29), I stopped by a Western Union Office in Santo Domingo and they gave me a rate of 32 pesos for 1 US Dollar.

Speaking of Western Union, there are a few hot chicks (who are receiving money) in this office. LOL

This office is around a 5 to 7 minute drive from the Malacon.

I have always used the yahoo currency search and found it to be the good avg rate you will find in Sosua. Santiago seemed a bit higher but not by enough to really care. I would think from when I looked today you should get no less than 32 to 1 at a cambio and possibly 32.5 if you exchanged a bunch at once. I had guys in Feb trying to give me 32 to 1 and laughed at them. Told the guy who rents motorcycles and cars I just got 34 to 1 after I left your place and went to the supermarket next to verizon. Next day I went back he tried 33 to 1. I got 34.4 to 1 at the cambio near Bailys. They should all be pretty close although I do have to admit I got the best rate exchanging at the big super market with the verizon inside it .

Judys was closed the two weeks I was in town (8-22 March).
Not sure if it is permanent or just temporary.

boston jim/Guttaman said he was doing airport runs saturday when we talked to him at rocky's wed. night so i assume he will be there. i will check when he comes in today

i changed at judys rate was down to 31.8
Lm used his atm card this morning and got 26 cnd which i think was better than the 24 on the street.

i think he always uses the one at super super thats where he took weyland as well.
if i run outta cash i always use the scotia bank cause i have their card and have never had a problem but i usually have enough cash until maybe the last day

Generally, no. That is why we always pay in pesos. We take advantage of favorable exchange rates. NEVER pay in US dollars. If a chica requests dollars, this is a warning sign that she is going to hit you up for a premium price.

Dont exchange it in the airport.

Know the rate! Check it on yahoo or any other exchange website and find the closest match.

You get better rates if you deal with the same person mainly. Also exchanging during the daytime is better also as everyplace is open. If you plan on exchanging more than 300 try asking for a little higher rate. I have never gotten the exact rate posted on yahoo but you can get pretty close if you shop around a little and haggle.

3 weeks later when i returned the rate there SUCKED so i waited and exchanged in boca chica...it's all about timing and knowledge.:iconTU:
