Election time in Trinidad is a bit like carnival time, with political parties using music, dance, celebrities, rallies, motorcades and walkathons to reach out to the voters. The recent election held on Nov 5 in the energy-rich Caribbean island nation of Trinidad and Tobago was unlike any other election the voters had seen. For the first time, Trinidad politics had moved from the usual two party contests to an exciting three-cornered battle where all political groups carried out high voltage campaigns with a major publicity blitz to woo the voters.
