View Full Version : Why are we so fast?

I have been preplexed by the improvements we have seen.

It's the same hundreds of forums, 10,000 word trip reports, and 100+ pics per thread including avatars.

Well in the background are the answers, first of all a VERY IMPRESSIVE cache system. Forum pages, index page, images, and even searches are cached.

The "Today's Posts" search is completely cached, the search never hits the SQL DB. If there is a new post, the SQL DB updates the cache!

In the case of other searches that is not cached but that is why searches have a delay, so the server is not taxed.

Now as far as posts go, if a post is read, it is cached for everyone else.

With the old system EVERY click was a SQL lookup. Now our SQL queries have gone down 90%!

The other speed bonus is that statistics are updated during the dead time.

I didn't know the old site wasn't cache dependent. That explains a lot! Thanks again, DT.

I don't understand a word of it but I do know it is much quicker now than before. I do like it now! Keep up the good work and thank you! :) :)
