Here is the exact same picture, one uploaded to our server through FTP without being touched. The other upload through vbImageHost. I will admitt if you zoom the picture there is a difference especially when reading the small text but in full view I see very little difference.
The picture was taken with a Fujifilm FinePix S7000 SLR Camera, 6.3M Effective Pixels, 12.3M Recording Pixels, retail about $650.
The original pic:
Res: 4048 X 3040
Size: 4.5MB
The vbImageHost pic:
Reg: 799 X 600
Size: 83Kb

Big difference!!
In the first picture, on the Martini bottle I can read the year (1863) easily when you click onto the picture. The second picture, you can't hardly see the year 1863. But, do we really need to see things that close? :p :p
while there's a huge difference in the gross size of the pics, in practical use very little difference.

Damn if I can tell the difference. How about trying again with a tit?
I do notice a difference but then I pride myself on my photography.
I don't think the first image needs to be so big (it could have been resized).
Again everything is subjective.

The Image Host here has gotton much better....when it was first introduced it obviously degraded picture quality substantially...and the watermark thing didn't help
DT you must have weaved some magic on it since the Image Host was introduced......I uploaded the pics from my last trip report using the host here and I was happy with it.......but I still like to use Image Shack and put my own watermarks on...

Honestly I didn't change anything but I have noticed if you use IH to upload already compressed pics they get very bad, but if you upload the original pics they are decent.
