I usually stay at Caribe Campo in a 1 bedroom some friends own. The Penthouse is the bomb. Have heard it is what is described. Downside is that unless the unit has an inverter power is often off from 1 to 5 in the afternoon. I go there in 3 weeks and have been told there is also some problems with the generator for the complex and there is new management trying to improve the electricity problem. Some blackouts late at night also. No bus to the beach. I get a car or a reliable moto. It is 1/4 th mile up a hill and no motos can go up the road after midnight. Chicas need to leave cedula at gate if you pull up on moto. On site store open till 10 pm but mostly has basics ( snacks and beer ). 1 small restaurant on site. Good german style food. The pool is great. I recommend checking on the power situation and renting a car. Not always motos hanging around up there when you need one.

Drunk driving is legal in the DR. Just don't crash up or kill anyone. The penthouse is awesome of what i am told and Lou lives up at Caribe Campo without a car. Local taxis 150 to 200 pesos to get home at night. I hope you like walking or motos if you stay there. Very quiet and the chicas love the pool. Ask Peter from Passions. He lives at CC also. Great security there.

Is it chica friendly? Check out the URL, this place belongs to the guy who owns Travel and the Single Male, or the TSM website. I'd say it is a fairly safe bet that it is chica friendly :D

Never had a problem except for the time it took me 3 hours to find the car. I forgot i took a moto and left the car at the apartment. Seriously, the 1st time i rented a car in the DR Gypsie from Adventure Rent a Car sat and split a grande with me as we went over the contract. Then Lou showed up and we had a few more. Also, the key chain was a bottle opener. I love the DR. You can drive drunk but need to wear your seat belt. No seat belt 500dr fine. Driving drunk with beer in the cup and the cop makes you pour it back into the bottle. I need to hit the lotto and move there ASAP.

Has anyone stayed at Perla Marina?

With this being a house, do you think I'd have any problems bringing chicas back?

Do you know of any other 3br spots that run about $150/ night, other than Casa Linda?

Perla Marina is a gated community, a lot of nice houses in there. They have their own security and you would definitely need a car to get around from inside. I don't think you will have a problem bringing in chicas.

Casa Linda is nearby also but I think it is more pricier. It is also a nice place for people who wants to be near Cabarete Beach. The good thing about this area is that it is between Sosua and Cabarete Beach, a moto will take you back into Sosua in under 10 minutes.

They rarely have tail lights and don't go as fast as highway traffic, and are too prone to being run over at night.
Car drivers often refuse to turn off their highbeams, so people are driving out there half blinded half the time, and you just can't see those motos unless they have a big bright tail light, which they almost never have.
Public cars would be safer.

It's owned by Bruce from the TSM site. Now those guys were really the pioneers on DR mongering. Most of them have moved on to other destinations etc, Bruce also has a place in Cartegena.

TSM is the big leagues of mongering. Most of those guys were big time world travelers. If you want trip reports on madagascar etc. . . . . TSM was the place.

Boca Chica was the place back then. When it got played out. . . .Bruce got "adventurous" and started going to the north coast/sosua. I guess he still has the penthouse there.

Ever notice how a Grande fits perfectly into a Honda CRV's cup holder?

Ohh I know that, I wouldn't even attempt to cross the street at nighttime, at least not on the main road. You are right about the vehicles that don't dim the light, they blind everybody.

If my memory serves me right, the owner of TSM had sold this place early last year, as he had built another place somewhere else in the area.

Could be but it is still on his site? Although his site still seems to be straight .html with no dynamic content so making changes would be more difficult.
