I will be in SD for New Years with my novia. Does anyone have any New Year's experience in the city? I hear there is a big deal on the Malecon. What's the best place to stay on New Year's Eve?

Gonna say same thing... It's the most expensive, but if you're with your Novia, do it right and stay at the Jaraguay--it's ground zero, don't really need to do much planning other than that... Casino, pool, bar with live music, dancing, they have a new years party I went to, but it's best to just take a date there... It's expensive by DR standards, but for wealthy dominicans i figure..

Is the Jaragua New Year's Eve party the Bombazo musical thing? Is that worth the $60 or $70 pp that it costs in your opinion?

I went to the bbombazo last year. Last year was Tonio, Los Potros, julian oro duro, Hector "el torrito" Acosta and Frank Reyes. It was a great concert and your dominican novia would dig it but it ended like 7 am!

If you want to go to that concert stay at the jaragua and then you can just walk back to your room etc. This year Tonio, Hector Acosta and Frank Reyes are playing once again with 2 other groups.

If you are not going to the bombazo the Intercontinental may be a better choice as the Malecon parties are about a block away from there near the obelisko.
