Interior and Police Minister Franklin Almeyda Rancier is asking Tourism Minister Felix Jimenez to submit in writing the classification of the Hotel Hispaniola. Almeyda would like to know it if a 3, 4 or 5 star hotel. The request comes after competing businesses disputed that Led nightclub at the hotel was allowed to stay open beyond closing hours established by the presidential alcohol beverages decree. They argue that the clientele of the nightclub is made up primarily by locals, not tourists.
Yesterday, Deputy Minister of Interior and Police and director of the Alcoholic Beverages Control Program Jose Pantaleon Maria Arias said that the curfew does not apply to bars, clubs and nightspots that operate within a five-star resort or hotel. Tourism Minister Felix Jimenez has observed that other hotel establishments, similar to the Hotel Hispaniola, have not been authorized to sell liquor after the 12 midnight and 2am holiday and weekend curfew.
