Condos, not sure of new name or if the project was ever completed. I believe their is an issue with taxes and other financial problems. Another good place run into the ground.

There are no windows or doors on any of the units, and the pool has been drained for over two years now. That was a great spot if you found a unit with a decent bed A/C. What a surprise there is a tax lien on it, remember who ran it! The wild turkeys were kind of neat to watch. The new name was supposed to be "Nuevo Mundo" until the owners bailed. Typical Sosua development.

I just got back from a week there. The condo was nice...smaller than HarborView in Puerto Plata, but still nice. Air conditioning, fridge, comfortable queen bed, pool (small and shallow, but still nice). While I was there, Marco had room safes installed so one needn't worry about unknown ladies. I likely won't be back, though, as due to a series of unfortunate events, it seems that Sosua hated me. This is nothing to do with the condos, however, as the room was fine, and a very fine value. The room staff even cleaned up the dishes left over from the night before...now that's service!!!

The Trade Winds condos are located on the east end of Sosua, on the south side of the main highway. They are condominiums with seperate entrances. No problem with girls at all, as you have a private outside entrance. Bring none or many...no-one's to know or care. The rates are posted on Rocky's web site...I believe it's $235 / week plus a $50 damage deposit...it's on the site. The condos are booked through Rocky's, and they supply an airport pickup/dropoff service if required (I didn't require it).

There is no restaurant on site...it's not a hotel, but a condominium. There is a rather good restaurant at the Bed and Breakfast just across the street, however, and I ate their dinner special twice...good food. For the most part, however, my both of my ladies cooked for me in the condo. I don't know what that is about, but I must bring out the mothering instincts in them, but my dates in the D.R. almost always want to cook. The daily cleaning staff were great and always cleaned up any remaining dishes, along with normal cleaning. They came by concho, so occassionally interrupted a morning / afternoon delight, but they were courteous and just came back later. I wasn't too scheduled, so it was a bit hit-and-miss if they would catch me home or not. Still, they were very friendly ladies...I have no Spanish to speak of, but a smile, a Gracios, and a No Problemo seem to go a long way.

There's always a motoconcho at the entrance to the Trade Winds, so in two minutes and for 40 pesos you can get anywhere in Sosua you want. I caught my first concho from the TradeWinds, he drove quite sanely, and I took the guy's number. He now knew where I lived, and even if I couldn't explain it to anybody else, I had a ride home.

There's decent wireless internet at the Trade Winds. It cost $10 U.S. for a week. I put it on Paypal...no problems.

With respect to my problems in Sosua...well, that's probably a thread on its own...suffice it to say that it was all happenstance and bad timing, so I don't expect others to have the same problems.

I am looking forward to this one, as I am sure many guys are. It is partly just Schadenfreude (the dramas threads here are usually the ones that get most posts) but also there is more for us newbies and relative newbies to learn from things that go wrong than from trips that run like Swiss watches.

I think it has 8 rooms PLUS an owner's suite, probably worth $150 Grand!

I am thinking about going to Sosua with a couple of guys for 3-5 days and this time try the "villa" thing. after looking at the list and making a couple of calls we came up with:

http://www.hispaniolarealestate.com/english/properties/rentals2.asp

Villa Yasmin #42 is open and seems to fit the need. 3 bed/3bath

1. does anyone know if it is chica friendly and or how to go about asking the receptionist
if it is in a tactful manor.

2. Any suggestions on a 3-4 bedroom villa with pool that you guys have recently found to be chica friendly?

3. Has anyone had any dealings with this group for a villa:
http://www.amberguardian.com/rentals/index.php?pid=39&user=det

they have a 4 BR for $230/night which seems a little steep for off season but it looks nice.

4. I have heard the depate on renting a car versus not renting before and it seems to always fall on the side that you need one if you rent a villa. Is that the consensus or can you get a few cabbie numbers for the late night early morning stuff.

Thanks for your help.

I'm wondering about a place called Club Isla Bonita that has a pretty nice website. Their address is listed as Calle Argentina #4 near to the casino but I can't seem to get in touch with them.

Here's their link if someone can shed some light on this. Do they still exist?

Villas are the only way to go.....that being said -

1) Villa Yasmin # 42 - aka Scarface Mansion - does have 3 bedrooms but the one downstairs has 2 double beds. That room is pretty small but it also has it's own bathroom. You can put the the two beds together but the room is nothing like the two main bedrooms upstairs. Nice big house, beautiful grounds and pool. There is a BBQ there to be used if you like. I was there 4 weeks ago and the radio/CD player did not work nor did the cable. Give Bigi/Joanna a call before you get there and tell them that you heard that stuff was not working and that you want to be able to use it while you are there.

2) Casa Linda is chica friendly but you have to remember that families for the most part are living there and any crazy noise will be reported. The guards at the gate will check cedulas of anyone you bring in. If they know you the guards will let you come and go as you please but if you are a fresh face be prepared to be stopped with anyone that you bring back. Give them a beer or two your first day there - that never hurts. But always remember that this is a residential community and give it the proper respect. You do not have to worry about them reporting you in the pool with some naked chicas but loud noise/music will get a knock on the door.

3) I always rent a car no matter where I am staying but it is much less the hassle to have one especially if you are staying at Casa Linda. It is about 5-10 minutes max from Classicos by car but it is a bit of a hike if you do it on foot. You can get good rental deals with Alamo and National.

IMHO - do the "villa' thing as you said and rent a car.

I hope this helps a little.

[quote=Ingus_Khan;499001]Thanks Magnum.

As Magnum stated Yasmin #42 "the scarface mansion" is inside the casa linda complex so the complex is about 5-10 minutes from the main drag in sosua by car. Naked chicas froliking in the pool is cool at night during the day i would refrain from it...as stated there are families with kids staying in there!!! put it this way Keep everything grown and sexy when staying inside the complexe's. Some of the villas have locks on the closet and some dont. the closet lock keys are usually on the house keys that bigi/joanna give you when you arrive. Not all the villas have safes, so best to bring extra pouch safes or i just leave all valuables in my luggage and lock my luggage up. i havent had a problem up there with chicas stealing. They check I.D.'s so make sure the chicas are of legal age.

Lastly is a Nissan Sentra big enough for three full size guys and a chica or two or do we need the small SUV.

Me and Moshy usually go cheap when it comes to cars and just cram when needed. but if you need something bigger than just get a mid-size jeep.

Thanks for your help guys.

As said in the other posts, Casa Linda and Hispaniola up the block from the Police Station are both chica friendly. If you feel like walking you can walk to downtown from Hispaniola but not from Casa Linda. But would still recommend a vehicle, because there are a lot of hills in Hispaniola, therefore a nice view of the ocean in the heat of the day a tough walk. Since Hispaniola is new and still doing a lot of construction the last time I visited a friend there they had one guy at the entrance allowing people in, he wasn't collecting or looking at cedulas. At Casa Linda they always look at cedulas unless they know you well. Before I moved to Sosua I always stayed at Casa Linda show it got to a point that they just waved me and my chica(s) through. Both are clean and well kept with maid service included everyday except Sunday (Of course leave a tip for the maid when you leave). I feel if you like to romp in the pool naked with the chica's Casa Linda is a better bet, simply because most of it's rentals are more mature and therefore have more foliage unless you are an exhibitionist. I prefer my privacy and in Hispaniola with the hills if there is a condo above you they have a great view of your pool area, but it is still nice. I don't think you can lose no matter which way you choose.

Ive never really came across anything, on this site, with info on regards to Coco,s Hotel in Sosua. I guess its in the north east area near the Chiquita Casino?

Ive just read 6 reviews on travelocity(i know, the owner could have given all the reviews lol) but, they were all very positive.

NIce atmosphere, helpful owner in Gerry, no one complained of the food either.

Some of the comments stated good size rooms, very clean, tv, safe in room, mini fridge and a/c. All this for $20 to $27. This has everything i want in a room.(if everything works properly)

Most of you read my last trip report back in May and it wasnt very positive. I honestly felt i paid to much and i dont really have a lot of access money to be throwing around,( I am now rellying on a pension from work and interests off my investments(which isnt a hell of a lot lol) but, i do like going on vacations and i am considering giving Sosua another shot.

Remyman and Bentwires trip thread reports have inspired me on how to have a good time and i think ive learned a bit more on what i need to do to enjoy myself more.

I sayed at CR on my last trip. I think i paid around $55 a night and probably paid another $10 a day on taxis(i want to live another 30 years so I avoid the motos) So, total expenses for hotel and transportation was on average $65-$70 a night.

Coco's is a bit out of the way and motos or cabs would be needed a lot to get around town. Since i wanted to avoid these high taxi fares that i encountered last time in Sosua, i thought that this time i will take a gamble( hope i dont get into an accident) and rent a car with the money i saved by staying at coco's.

My question to you all. ANYONE stayed at Coco's before? I havent read anything on this site on regards to this hotel. thanks

I always stay in Villas when I'm in Sosua. If you're traveling with buddies and splitting the cost, it comes to about the same in priceas a hotel. But you have a lot more privacy, nicer furnishing, and private pools. I can't imagine staying in a hotel anymore.

The security is a lot tighter in the Casa Linda community, which is a good thing. The gate guards always check the girl's cedulas, and there are always armed guards patroling the premises. One time the guards refused to let this chica that my boy had pulled come onto the premises. Apparently, she'd been there before and had caused some trouble. They'd previously written down her name and cedula # in a note pad. The guard said that she was "mafiosa" and wasn't coming in. My boy was pissed at first because this chica was a dime. But he realized later on that the guards probably saved him a lot of trouble with a crazy chica.

And villa Yasmin #42 in Casa Linda is crazy nice! Stayed there in August.

The security in the Hispaniola community isn't as tight. In fact, the guards didn't even check chica's cedulas the last time I was there. But the villas are newer and much nicer. And some of them have a view of the ocean and mountains.

We stayed there in November and I gotta tell ya, Villa #17 is ridiculous. Two stories, two balconies with ocean views, 4 bedrooms, nice pool, and an outside bar. The property is up so high that you can see the lights of Puerto Plata at night. Best villa i've ever stayed in. Period.

Thanks to everyone for the information provided in the thread. It's very helpful. Is it feasible to take taxi's if staying in Casa Linda/Hispaniola as opposed to renting a car? I don't want to rent a car if not totally necessary. And if so, how much should I expect to pay for a taxi onto the main strip in Sosua and back?

There is a small list of Sosua Hotels at www.MyDRFest.com (http://www.MyDRFest.com) and it includes telephone, address, email link and if the hotel is a GFE (Guest Friendly Environment). I have stayed at Rocky's and it is a good value for the price. Good food, WiFi in Restaurant and close to the Sosua street action.

Coco Hotel is a promising hotel. IT is currently, far from measuring up to the tried and true Sosua Hotels. The water pressure in the showers is intermittent; you have to nag for toilet paper and towels. However, the new owners (5 months) are a 20something Canadian couple who have drastically improved the hotel, from before. Power often goes out and the AC has never worked during my stays, yet the staff is SUPER friendly and would give you the shirt off their backs.... Hopefully, the improvements continue.

Sea Horse Ranch is definitely chica friendly. I've stayed there 5 times at least. I've since moved on to Casa Linda and Olas De Oro, Sea Horse Ranch every 3 months is too expensive. Check out my pics and you'll see my backyard view from my Sea Horse Ranch villa I used to stay at.

My question to you all. ANYONE stayed at Coco's before? I havent read anything on this site on regards to this hotel. thanks

Last trip I went by there and met the young canadian female, and she was a great host. We looked at the rooms, and they were basic, BUT you could tell that they were slowly improving the place, and I would compare them to a small step above Don Antonios, one of my favorites for amenities/value.

The pool was excellent, and a HUGE selling point for me was the path to the near private beach. The bar attitude was cheerful, and I got the distinct feeling one would be made to feel right at home.

If you're not a walker though, it's a good bit from the Pedro Clisante action, and getting a chica back would be a definite concho ride, but all in all, it's not a bad choice at the price.

Thanks for remembering I asked about the Voramar before. No I didn't know exactly where Sea Breeze is but new it was close to the water in town. Curious about scale there isn't one in the map. How far say in miles or city blocks is Voramar which shows way to the east from the bars ect. I have heard 10-15 minute walk??? I am going to try many places but will probably if nothing changes follow the crowd and stay at the most common ones like NG and SB most of the time. I will be down a lot this winter maybe as soon as Dec. when my business slows down here. I will be in and out of POP this week with unfortunately no time for much fun at all.

I also have seen that map on some site related to hotels there is a similar one made the same way on Boca Chica probably on the same site I saw it on when I was looking at BC. I have pretty much written off Vor do to the distance and I have been told it is more for Euro's. I agree if I was going to want to stay farther out which I will do also I am going to try FOD. But I want to be right in town my first time even though I will have a car. I figure it will be better to explore by day with the car in the other towns and hit the street at night on foot with a full flask of Patron then after a nice seafood dinner and a empty flask go show Pete it is empty and get a good laugh at Passions. Keep the maps coming I am sure I am not the only one that appreciates it. I asked once before about more videos of street action and have found some but that is great as well. I guess they would call that a new thread "Street Video of Sosua".

Way off. It's off the main street coming into Sosua. Pass the Texaco where you would normally turn to get to Pedro Clisante and it's on the right...less than a mile.

If you jump on a moto at the Playero Supermarket or the gas station you go east on the main highway toward Cabarete. Maybe 60 seconds later, you see the sign showing Tradewinds and turn right on that road. Tradewinds condos are about 100-150 yards up the road on the right. From that location you can walk to all the main Clisante action in 20 min. I've done it as my first trip I stayed at the Palms, just across the road from Tradewinds. But take the concho and pay your 30 pesos. Its worth it.

Hey just wanted to clarify this issue of a couple months back. The Coco or its staff never did or NEVER would solicit money like this! If you have been following the "Google vs Chinese Government story" you may know that thousands of G-mail accounts were hit in this way, probably by Chinese government "sanctioned" hackers. Unfortunately the Coco G-Mail was one of those many accounts "hit", and then various "scams" were tried by the perpetrators. When Google intervened to fix the problem they wiped out the Coco G-Mails contact list so the hotel was UNABLE to advise any previous e-mail contacts of this scam. All appears to have been "fixed" by the Google folks who took these incidents extremely seriously. Thanks for your understanding of this situation, and again apologies to anyone affected.

For those of you looking for Villas or apartments, condos call them what you want he is some info somebody might be able to use.

I think we all know Hispaniola up the hill from the police station is nice and a much shorter walk than the Palms/Tradwinds that I don't personally would never do that hill without a car. Some guys at passions told me the motos start at 200 up there because they know they got you but I told them not to pay over 50.

Here is another option for you on the road to Mulatta which also goes up hill to the right off the highway. It is about 100 meters or more past the entrance road to Palms/Tradewinds. However it is paved in new blacktop and smooth as can be. Rare in Sosua. I suppose because of some money up there.

I drove up there to go to the Thai Restaurant called Chili but they don't open until 6pm and only on Weds-Sunday.

These two places I am told both do rentals.

I tried to send you a private message but your box if full. Appreciate any advice you or anyone can give me!

Hey, I'm reading and old post of yours from '08. Did you actually go through with the villa? How did you go about reserving your stay? Did they ask for money upfront, etc? I'm thinking about going the villa route for my next trip. Even though I'm going solo, the appeal of the villa is too much. I appreciate any help/advice you can offer. Thanks!

We are 3 guys in their mid 50's. We a planning a trip in Feb 2011. We are looking for a condo/villa that is within a 2 min walk to town and beach. Price doesn't matter but want a super luxury, 3 bedroom, 3 bath or larger place to party and bring chicas. I want a place that has as much action as possible in terms of beach and accessability to the town. Looks like the Sosua Bay Resort has a great location but I don't want to stay there. I would love a place to rent on our own nearby if that's the best location on the strip. Any ideas?

I would suggest you look at Residential Hispaniola, they are all villas and within walking distance to the strip. There are lots of threads on here about the villas.

09-14-2010, 10:46 PM
The only problem with Residencial Hispaniola is that you will be required to have a vehicle to bring the chicas in and out. So, even of you always arrived in a taxi you'd have to call another to take them from the villas to the street. You will not be allowed to walk them in or out and scooters/motos won't work either. Basically you will have to rent a vehicle and it does not sound like that's in your plan.

I've never stayed there but is has, somewhat recently, been discussed here before...and a search should bring it up without too much effort.

I am only interested in rental potential. There are many other viable options, but things change and keeping up to what's going on won't hurt.

Has anyone got any information on Garden Condos (location, rent prices, rules, contacts etc)?

Here is one of many links available:

No takers yet. Can anyone pinpoint the location or has got website or other contact info? Just as a challenge? Don't be stingy!

Also, any website or information about Caribe Campo condos/apts in La Mulata?

Garden Condos:

Do you know where Judy's cambio was back in the day?

Pretty sure it is behind there with the entrance the driveway at the right of the buillding when facing it.

Caribe Campo:

Management has changed and I no longer "know" much. For renting it's fine but haggle...there may be a lot of wiggle room depending on the owner of the unit.

IMO it's too far from the highway and the main are of Sosua if you do not have a vehicle and in shitty weather it'd suck. The good news is that there is/was a little colmado in the place right beside it and there is a new one by The Palms so you don't have to go too far for basics.

Maybe send balcoach a PM. He stayed there in January.

He enjoyed it. It is a place where there are many ex-pats staying there. Not a place for me.

No, the only Judy I recall was one that walked away with HOlofernes' head. How about Google Earth coordinates?

How about imagine if you were to turn from Pedro Clisante on to Calle Ayuntamiento, which is the corner where Super Super is, and walk on down past the Town Hall, which is the Ayuntamiento. Somewhere on the right in the next block or so is Garden Condos.

Trey,

I'm not sure exactly but they were well signed. I know they're just past the Town Hall.

It's on the same strip where Eddy's Sport's bar was and they're behing the building that front on the street. They're fucking beautiful and mostly bought as investments ,or that was/seemed to be the case, and the rest are families and non-mongers. I'd love to live there but would not buy, too rich for my blood, but as a vacation rental property you'd have to be very discrete with the chicas. I'd be uncomfortable I think...

Yes,

new small condo will be available thus winter season, maybe several studios and like 6 one bedrooms, the building is immediately on the right side of the street which goes from Alejo Martinez to PC in the area past Bologna Restaurant.

new condo will be finished this year next to Waterfront

I'll be surprised if that's the case. That project has had more then a few starts and stops. Not a good sign.

Nice view from the third floor. But that's only if the Waterfront doesn't build something right in front of them.

Does anyone know if Casa Marina Beach is already under renovation as announced in May?

There is a chance I may show up next month for couple of weeks and the deal is $58 per day all inclusive for 2 adults. Is it worth it?

I may bring a teen family member, so I am looking for advice for the best deal in the area. I have been myself many times, my family visited, but hey, I need some input, as it may be a first vacation for a teen, so I don't want to fuck it up. I will be sneaking away to cabanas in any case just not to expose a teen to what's going on.

I have not heard anything to that matter, but things change:

Stayed recently for the first time in Hotel D'Piero.

Guest friendly
Security takes visitors IDs
Free pick up taxi from and to POP airport
Breakfast included (8 am to 11 am)
Safety deposit box
Daily cleaning
TV with porn channels
Generator
Hot and cold water
Aircon (no fan in my room, standalone fan on demand is available)

I had 2 balconies in my room, one with a Pto Pta mountain view

Very friendly staff!

It took me 8 minutes on foot to reach the main strip. Girls patience to walk usually ends at the fifth minute, so likely you have to motoconcho them. Motos are available round the clock at the Zoilo corner nearby.

Super Pola is 2 minutes walk, as 3 ATMs and a pharmacy in the building.

Overall, I will stay there again given the opportunity :positive:

Are you looking for a hotel? condo? villa?

you are dealing with a wide range of options and budget scale in El Batey.

what do you want, maybe I , and others can give you better idea, once we know what you want/need.
