Day 1

The plane landed at Santo Domingo Airport (SDO) about half an hour late. The flight had departed Fort Lauderdale (FLL) two hours earlier and the plane was full. I had paid $300 for the ticket (r/t FLL – SDO, Spirit Air, www.spiritair.com). I prefer FLL airport compared to MIA, because FLL is smaller and much more convenient in my opinion. Additionally, Sprit Air offers good airfares with frequent specials and the company uses FLL airport.

When reaching immigration, an immigration officer handed out the blue immigration form to all travelers to fill out. After completing the document I went to the counter on the right hand side of immigration area to pay for my tourist card (US$10). The tourist card is now a credit card sized document. Immediately after clearing immigration, when about exiting immigration, there was one immigration officer collecting the blue slip and another officer collecting the tourist card. (I don't understand why the same person could not collect both documents?) I also exchanged some US$ for RD$ at the airport to have enough money for a couple of hours. The exchange rate was US$ 1: RD$ 31.50.

Customs didn't bother me, they just waved me through when they saw that I didn't bring much luggage with me. Upon exiting the airport Pedro, my cab driver, was waiting for me with a sign with my name. We jumped into the cab and took of to Boca Chica ($20). The airport is not far away from Boca Chica, the distance is only 5 miles (8 km) away and it takes only about 10 minutes to reach Boca Chica from the airport.

I had previously made a reservation by phone for a room at the El Caucho hotel. I made the reservation through one of the managers of the hotel, Francesco. When I spoke with him he asked me if I was a member of ISOC and he offered me the 10% ISOC discount right away without me having to ask for it. The rate offered was US$ 35 per night including taxes for a single standard room after the ISOC discount. I also asked him to have a cab waiting for me at the airport at arrival, which he took care of. A day after my reservation he sent me a confirmation email and he also informed me that he had upgraded me from a single room to a single superior room.

After a short ride the cab pulled up to the El Caucho hotel that is located in the western part of Boca Chica:

I was greeted with a cold beer immediately upon arrival by Francesco and Abby (ISOC handle kammakaze1) and they turned out to be very friendly and helpful. Francesco offered to show me Boca Chica and we took off on a Honda four-wheeler immediately after I had put my bags in my room. Below are a few pictures of the hotel room, I will post a more detailed review with more pictures of the hotel in a separate thread:

http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g92/bocaortega/BocaChicaHotelElCaucho/ElCaucho16.jpg

On the way we stopped by the Orange office to hook up my cell phone (I have an unlocked tri-band GSM phone). The cost for the Orange SIM card and activation was RD$350 which included some talk time. The location of the office is near the intersection of Calle Caracol and Carretera Las Americas, opposite a Shell gas station, and there is a big Orange sign above the store front:

Orange/Movil Occidental
Calle Caracol #3
Phone: (809) 523-5957

The Orange office will ask for picture ID when activating the account. I showed them a photo copy of my passport which they accepted, because I don't like to carry around my passport in case I would loose it. It took about two and a half hours from the time they registered the account until I could start using the phone. Refill cards are sold everywhere and come in RD$25, RD$50, RD$100, and more.

After our stop at Orange we continued our trip through Boca Chica. Francesco pointed out many of the hot spots along the way and he introduced me to some of his friends and some girls he knows. Both Francesco and Abby are really cool guys, very friendly and helpful.

We were back at the hotel after about an hour and I unpacked and rested a little. Later I grabbed something to eat and relaxed at the hotel bar chatting with the girls before getting ready to go out. I decided to walk from the hotel to Duarte instead of taking a moto concho because it was my first day in Boca Chica and I wanted to take my time and to learn BC. By the way, a moto concho is RD$20 per passenger (can take up to two adult passengers) during day time and RD$40 per passenger during night time.

I strolled through Boca Chica and later during the night I ended up at Piano Plaza Discoteca Caribean (former Route 66/La Routa) along Duarte (the photos below were taken another day):

http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g92/bocaortega/BocaChicaDuarte/Duarte7.jpg

http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g92/bocaortega/BocaChicaDuarte/Duarte8.jpg

It was a good crowd at the place with many nice looking girls. I interviewed a few candidates and it turned out that many of them had been working not only in Boca Chica but also other places such as Sosua. I finally decided on Yeni, a 24 year old girl with a good attitude from Santo Domingo. We started the discussion about how large the contribution for ST should be to her college fund... She started with requesting RD$2,000 and I countered with RD$500. After a while, she settled for RD$1,000 and we took a moto concho back to my hotel. She left her cedula with the security guard at the hotel and we went up to the room. She was enthusiastic and I had a good time. I escorted her out and when the security guard knew that everything was OK he returned the cedula to the girl and she left.

The first day of my trip had started out great!

To be continued.

Day 2

After having breakfast I walked down to the beach. The beach is really nice and I ended up spending most of the day at the beach:

http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g92/bocaortega/BocaChicaBeach/BocaChicaBeach1.jpg

One of the nicer beach bars is Isla Bonita which is just by the water:

http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g92/bocaortega/BocaChicaBeach/BocaChicaBeach3.jpg

http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g92/bocaortega/BocaChicaBeach/BocaChicaBeach2.jpg

It is a great bar with a lot of pretty bartenders. The girls are all dressed in nice sexy sailor outfits and it is a really cool place to hang out at.

One my way back from the beach to the hotel I stopped by two farmacias to check for prices for Viagra and Cialis. The first farmacia is located on Duarte approximately one block east of Hotel Burbujas. I ended up buying my supply at the second farmacia that is located across the street from El Caucho hotel on Calle 20 de Diciembre. The prices were the following:

Viagra (100 mg), 4 pills, RD$ 1,100
Sildenafil (100 mg), generic Viagra, 2 pills, RD$ 221
Cialis, 2 pills, RD$ 1,324

There is a third farmacia in Boca Chica but I never checked for prices there.

After coming back from the beach I spent some time with the girls at the hotel. The girls are great and the hotel policy is that you as a guest can approach them if you want. There is no pressure from the girls and if you don't want to hook up with them, they will leave you alone. I liked the girls at the hotel, they were really cool to talk to and just to hang out with and there was no pressure at all from their side for a date, buying drinks, etc. I enjoyed spending time with them and practicing my Spanish.

In the evening I went to Duarte for a couple of beers and ended up hanging out with some expats. I meet a few Americans but most of the expats I met were from Europe, primarily Italy. There were a lot of Italians in Boca Chica at the time of my trip.

I went back to the hotel later and ended up with one of the hotel girls, a spinner. We had talked some earlier during the day and I enjoyed her company. We had a good time together and she was very friendly and it was more of a GFE experience.

I was going to go to Santo Domingo the following day for a day trip and she asked if she and a friend could join me which was OK for me.

To be continued.

Great report. When was your trip?

Thanks psriches!

My trip was between 3/22 and 3/27.

It turned out that the end of March was a great time to go there when it comes to the weather. The weather was very comfortable, not to hot and no rain. It was perfect.

Thanks herbf!

I enjoyed my stay in Boca Chica alot and I had a great time. I haven't been to Sosua yet so I can't compare. I plan to visit the whole DR during future trips (Santiago/Sosua/Cabarete/Samana etc), but I already know that BC will be a place I will return to on a regular basis. I will probably rotate and make a BC trip every two or three trips to DR.

I'm also very happy with the hotel; made friends with other hotel guests, expats, and locals; the girls were cool; and the hotel staff were great. I hope you will enjoy your stay there too!

Thanks for your reply!

I'm planning to post a thorough review with more pictures of the hotel in a separate thread when I get the chance, right now I'm busy trying to catch up at work. The rooms are on the small size and you can't compare the standard with the Hilton. But hey, DR is a thirld world country and the room rate was only US$35 per night so it worked out well for me. Personally, I'm not that picky when it comes to hotel rooms when I'm on vacation because I don't spend much time in my hotel when I'm travelling. But each to his own, I hope that the additional info and pictures about the hotel I'm planning to post will be a help to anyone who wants to know if the hotel will fit their need and level of comfort.

It looks as though you can touch both side walls while laying in bed. The room looks clean which is a top priority.

Is that a frig sitting in the corner?

That is a private balcony, yes?

I would say a trade off, a small room for a bar downstairs with available chicas. So far I don't remember reading any bad reviews of El Caucho.

Thanks again Marco for the report and escecially the pics.

That is a private balcony, yes?

1. The room was cleaned every day including Sundays and the cleaning ladies did a good job.

2. That is the minibar. The minibar was restocked every day (water, beer, wine, snacks, the usual stuff for a mini bar).

3. Yes, it is a private balcony. The room has a nice pool view.

I like sitting on the balcony with a chica sipping a few cold ones. A private balcony also comes in handy for other things.

The service at El Caucho is second to none. All the staff seem to go the extra mile to make your stay a pleasant experience.

The maid offered to do my laundry, and one of the ladies, my fiancee to be exact fussed over me a great deal when my knee flared up.

If I am on the south coast El Caucho will always be my first choice.

Willie.

PS. Marco I see they let you stay in my room. Nice and quiet back there.

Willie have you ever stayed at Costalunga?

prtyr2
04-06-2006, 12:31 PM
I have stayed at costalunga and el caucho. Most recently when el caucho was all booked I spent a night in costalunga in a 2 bedroom "suite". I was there with the novia, her friend, the novia's daughter and the friend's grand kid. I have stayed at costalunga in the past and this was the first time I never even saw mario or his wife around. maybe they were on vacation?

Costalunga is cool but I was not happy with the room on this trip.

There were 2 bedrooms:

the smaller bedroom which we gave to the novia's amiga and the kids, has AC and a smaller bed

the bigger room has a larger bed, a balcony, a small TV but NO ac. . . .not even a ceiling fan! It was uncomfortable to sleep in. The only way the room was comfortable was if we had the AC in the other room blasting with the doors to both bedrooms being wide open all day. Obviously that was not a real option while we were "sleeping".

I am not real picky but I need at least a fan. . . .lol. . . .

El Cacho's rooms are a bit small but clean and nice. Ther are 2 restaurants on site. Day time they have rotisserie chicken place and at night an italian restaurant. The staff bends over backwards and on at least 2 occasions they cooked me food from the italian place even though it was closed. The owner that handles the restaurant basically said..."if I am here and you want something. . .I will cook"! Great service and great food!

They had a pool table and ping pong near the pool and the bar has free wifi!
What more can you ask for for such a great price!

I usually only do day trips to boca, but if I plan to spend the night, el caucho is my first choice, and I am not really a monger. I'd stay there with the novia without a single reservation about it. The onsite chicas never hassle you but are always around etc. El cacho is great for the best of both worlds.

I don't want to seem down on Costa lunga as I have stayed there many times and always was completely happy with my stay. if el caucho is booked I'd stay at costalunga again, just not if I needed a 2 bedroom place.

I agree with you Wilie, it's the staff that makes the place great.

I paid the maid RD$ 200 to iron my shirts.

Yes, I stayed in room #25. I like the room, it's in the back away from the street and the noise.

Yes, they have an restaurant with a lot of Italian food on the menu. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner:

The pool table and ping pong table is located in the bar area next to the pool:

The pool table isn't in the best condition, but nevertheless I played some pool with the girls. By the way, on of the girls was really good at playing pool. She beat me almost every time.

The wifi works in the bar and in the dining room on the second floor of the restaurant.

Day 3

I went to a cambio on Duarte in the morning and exchanged some money. The rate was US$ 1 : RD$ 31.75.

Took a guagua from Boca Chica to Santo Domingo in the morning together with Spinner and her friend. I wanted to take the guagua so that I could see how the locals live. We just flagged down the guagua at the side of the road and jumped in. The rate is RD$ 40 for a trip from BC to Santo Domingo and it takes about 45 minutes. Santo Domingo is about 19 miles (29 km) west of the Las Americas Airport and BC is about 5 miles (8 km) east of the airport so the distance between BC and Santo Domingo is about 25 miles (37 km). The guagua was full, but it was still reasonable comfortable because the guagua was equipped with air-conditioning. If you are not sure where the guagua passes, you can walk to the main park, Parque Central, along Duarte where the guaguas stop. The stop on the north side of the park (street San Rafael) in front of the white BC church:

http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g92/bocaortega/BocaChicaDuarte/Duarte13.jpg

The guaguas are operated by two people, the driver and the cobrador (bus conductor). Just jump into the guagua (the final destination is usually posted on a sign on the windshield, if not just ask). Pay the cobrador during the trip when the cobrador decide to collect the fare. On our way to the capital we had to transfer one time, but on our way back we were able to find an guagua that went directly to BC.

We jumped off the guagua within two blocks of Parque Independencia in Zona Colonial and spent the whole day in the capital doing sightseeing primarily in Zona Colonial and in the Gazcue district. Below are some pictures from El Conde:

http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g92/bocaortega/SantoDomingoConde/Conde3.jpg

http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g92/bocaortega/SantoDomingoConde/Conde2.jpg

http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g92/bocaortega/SantoDomingoConde/Conde1.jpg

I really liked Santo Domingo and I will definitely try to spend some more time there in the future. What made the trip even more fun and interesting was that I was in the company with two Dominican girls. They were great company, funny and friendly, and it added up to the whole experience.

However, keep in mind that Santo Domingo is a third world capital. Some places are run down and the traffic is bad. Many Dominicans in the capital tend to dress well and I recommend to wear long pants (slacks) and a shirt if you want to fit in. Do not dress as if you are going to the beach (shorts and sandals).

We returned in the early evening. I was tired and took a nap after my shower. I woke up two hours later and went down to Duarte for a couple of beers. There were plenty of girls available at the Parque Central, along Duarte, and in the bars and clubs. I didn't pursue any girls that night even though I was approached by many. I don't really consider myself a monger. I like to travel to experience different cultures, meet people, relax, and practice languages. To meet girls is not my main purpose with traveling.

To be continued.

Day 4

I woke up early in the morning and had breakfast at a restaurant called Dapathan (sp?) in the Isla Bonita building along Duarte. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The breakfast was good and they bake their own bread:

http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g92/bocaortega/BocaChicaDuarte/Duarte5.jpg

http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g92/bocaortega/BocaChicaDuarte/Duarte6.jpg

I went to the beach after that and spent several hours just relaxing. On my way back from the beach I stopped by a cambio and was offered the rate of US$ 1 : RD$ 32.25. After freshening up a little after returning to the hotel I decided to take a motoconcho to Andres (RD$ 50). The town is just a couple of miles west of Boca Chica. A lot of the locals that work in BC live in Andres because it is too expensive for them to live in BC. I spent about an hour and a half there and had some food, arroz con pollo (chicken with rice). There is not much to see there, but I like to mingle with locals and see how they live.

In the evening I went back to Duarte. When I passed the American Bar I saw a girl, Merylene, that I had met at Piano Plaza during my first night in BC sitting by a table outside the bar. Below is a picture of the American Bar taken during day time:

http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g92/bocaortega/BocaChicaDuarte/Duarte10.jpg

She had tried to pick me up at Piano Plaza that night, but in the end I had chosen another girl. Merylene who is 23 years old was fun and entertaining to talk with and she made no secrets about what she did for a living. She told me that she used to alternate between BC and Sosua and I wouldn't be surprised if there are people on this board that have met her before. However, I have not seen any picture of her posted on the board. Most people would probably consider her to be a (hard core) puta, but I would use that description in a positive way when referring to her (what I mean is that she is a cool person and that I like her even if she is a hard core puta). More of that later in this posting. We chatted for a while and it turned out that she has a brother in the U.S. who is working to bring her over to the U.S. by setting up an arranged marriage so that she can get the necessary papers to stay in the country.

After talking to Merylene, I met some expats on my walk and we went to a bar for some beer. After a while, it was time for me to go to Piano Plaza to see if there was some action there. The place was crowded and it seems that it is one of the more popular places at the moment. (Burbujas that was very popular a while ago is not popular anymore, and places like Cosmos and Zanzi Bar are closed.) I talked to some of the girls and tried to make up my mind which one to choose. After I while I saw Merylene walk in and she greeted me. I was talking to another girl at the moment and Merylene left us alone. I was just relaxing and in no hurry to leave the place. While I was there I could not help to find it to be entertaining to observe how Merylene worked her way through the place and how she tried to hook up with guys. She was really good at what she was doing and even if the primary reason for her job is money; I can't help think that she also enjoys the attention she gets from guys and all the psychological game involved in the process. Anyway, I decided that I wanted to spend some time with her and waved her over. We talked a little and after some negotiation (just like the girl from my first night she started with asking for RD$ 2,000 and I made a counter-offer of RD$ 500) we agreed upon RD$ 1,000 for ST.

Merylene turned out to be a great choice for the night. She was a true professional in its best sense when it came to customer service and she didn't spare any effort to make sure that I enjoyed myself. She also has a great sense of humor and I had a great time with her and there was never any rush. Life is great!

To be continued.

Im glued to the screen! I love it when i read reports of people that really are into experiencing the culture. When one has an open mind it makes the trip much more satisfying and the locals do notice and you get better service and access to things a guy just there for sex can't imagine.

I can tell from your report, your are cultured..thank you!

Thanks but I think that you gotta expand on your 1bedroom experience at costalunga..cause right now, im like naaah. I sometimes stay at Batagliera and I like it because of the relationship that i have with management and how they always look out for me.

One time I was under the influence and brought some average girls back to the hotel and reception wouldnt let them in because he said that they were fea lol...so he hands me his machete to watch the gate while he steps out and later he returned with three andreas girls to choose from..things like that i always will remember.

Thats one of the reasons i like the south so much more...the access to the culture.

Day 5

It was Sunday and the plan was to spend the whole day at the beach with Spinner. On Sundays many people from Santo Domingo go to Boca Chica with their families for the beach. The weather was great and the beach was crowded with people. Bachata was blasting from everywhere, the beach was full of sexy women, and it was like one big party. I spent the day sipping cold beer and enjoying good seafood brought to me from one of the beach stalls near Playa Vista. It is a must for anyone going to DR to spend a Sunday on the beach in BC!

We went back to the hotel in the late afternoon. I relaxed a little and took a short nap. Later I grabbed some food at a restaurant along Duarte. Spinner was my date for the night and just like my previous time with her I had a great experience.

Day 6

This was my last day of the trip, my flight was scheduled for the afternoon. The morning was spent taking a last walk through Boca Chica (the exchange rate offered at the cambio was US$ 1 : RD$ 32.50), packing, and saying goodbye to all my new friends in BC. I promised them all to be back soon.

Pedro who had picked me up at the airport when I arrived showed up on time and brought me to the airport (US$20). Spinner and one of her friends took the opportunity to get out of BC and the hotel a little, and joined me for the airport. During my flight home, the only thing in my mind was that I had to go back to DR again, the sooner the better. What a great place!

Just want to end with some afterthoughts/advice....

-I had prepared for my trip by learning some Spanish and was able to keep simple conversations with people. The more Spanish you know, the better your experience will be. The locals will really appreciate that you took your time and tried to learn some Spanish even if you only know a few words.

-The women really like men who can dance salsa and merengue (I know some). If possible, try to take some dance lessons at home before your trip. If not, ask the girls to teach you, it's a lot of fun.

-Treat people with respect, no matter who they are.

-Remember that DR is a third world country, don't expect everything to be as it is at home.

-A trip to DR will open up anyone's eyes on how is should be to be a man. If you are used to date spoiled, fat, ugly, neurotic, crazy, shop-aholic, and femi-nazi American women you will realize that you no longer need to put up with all that BS at home. You will get a totally new perspective on women and relations and you will ask yourself: “Why in the whole world do I need to put up with this shit at home when I can go to DR and meet young, sexy latin women who are appreciative of me?” You will be in much more control over your social life and relationships in general at home after your experiences in DR.

-Don't hesitate about going to the DR, JUST GO!!! Every man should at least once in their life go to a country such as DR.

-All in all, my time in DR and BC had been great. I experienced no drama whatsoever and everything went smooth. The main reason for this was all the information that I had read on ISOC about DR, what to expect from the chicas, and Dominican society in general. By being prepared I was able to fully focus on enjoying my time in paradise, and was able to prevent any situations. The information on this board, not only about chicas but also about DR overall, is invaluable and can't be found in any politically correct guide book. I want to thank everyone who has contributed by posting to ISOC and I hope that my postings will be helpful to anyone who will visit BC in the future.

To all my friends in the DR, I will be back soon! Hasta pronto!

The only thing which i guess would make for a good discussion is whether that "appreciation" is genuine, just business or not important.
