The PRD party took the opportunity yesterday to answer PLD accusations that presidential candidate Miguel Vargas Maldonado is a corrupt candidate by making counter-accusations. The PRD is claiming that President Leonel Fernandez has ignored the law, has avoided discussing it and has used his subordinates to try and defame the opposition party. During a press conference, PRD officials said that Vargas Maldonado would answer the accusations in public debates and in the country's court systems. Still the PRD, as a block, refused to answer questions about Vargas's suspicious dealings as Public Works Minister during the Hipolito Mejia presidency, and PRD campaign head Carlos Gabriel Garcia reiterated that they have given Fernandez 18 opportunities to answer questions about the Sun Land case, which Fernandez has yet to do. Garcia added that Vargas would answer all these questions in due course, adding that in the same way Fernandez can answer how he went from a man with meager resources to one of the richest men in the DR, with numerous investments inside the country and overseas.
