Bread prices down

Bread will once again be sold for RD$3.00 per unit of the traditional 'pan de agua' bread roll, according to the Small and Medium-sized Flour Industrialists Union (UMPIH) after they accepted a proposal to reduce bread prices. The decision was made by hundreds of small bakery owners who discussed the effects that the bread price increase has had on the Dominican economy. The government's offer includes a subsidy for the sector, which will help cover the increase in international flour prices and other raw materials. No amount for the subsidy was given.
