Bread subsidy to keep prices low

The government has announced a new program called the Humanitarian Flour Subsidy Program which will pay out RD$350 for every 120 pound bag of flour. This is an attempt to reduce the current five peso price for the most popular type of bread to RD$3.00. This move was a result of the major price increases for normal farm products whose production was seriously set back by Tropical Storms Noel and Olga. Prices for some items have skyrocketed more than 500%. The Ministry of Industry and Commerce and the Small and Medium Bakeries Association will appoint a technician to oversee the disbursement of the subsidy.
