Pols to get RD$1.06 billion

The president of the Central Electoral Board (JCE), magistrate Julio Cesar Castanos Guzman, announced that his organization would pay the political parties the sum of RD$1.06 billion pesos at the beginning of March as part of funding for political campaigns in the run-up to the 16 May Presidential Elections. The chief magistrate of the JCE put his word at risk as he promised to audit the use of this money that is given to the politicians, as established by law, and warned that the JCE could seize any goods obtained through the improper use of funds. The Electoral Law 275-97 assigns 0.5% of the national income to the political parties during election years.
