Last Monday evening saw the start of the first blues nights in the Safari Lounge in Sosúa. Mario kept his word when he announced that he would have an artist performing every Monday evening. This time it was the owner of the Karaoke Bar (opposite the Merengue Bar) who sang on this first blues night. The blues singer's sister also sang some ballads, to the delight of the enthusiastic audience.
For the coming Monday evenings, Mario (the co-owner of the Safari Lounge) has assured us that he will have one of the troubadours from the Sosúa area performing. We're looking forward to seeing exactly who that will be next Monday evening in the Safari Lounge.

Opening night was April 3rd. That's Fred pictured with his sister. He emails me from time to time about different events. He's one of the only African American owners in Sosua. He owns the Sosua Village Cafe right next to Club X. It's better known as the "Karaoke Bar"!

He also sang there in March, billed as a "NY Soul SInger". Interesting, because I believe Fred is from California. Real nice guy though (retired INS).

Also owns Bernies old bar down by El Toro's

Not made it to that end of the street ? 90% of the good places are there.

If you are in Rocky's, that's just around the corner.

Leave the computer alone...

As reported in Sosua News:

We told you previously that there is a band playing in the Safari Lounge every Monday evening, although the owner (Mario) has now moved this to the Wednesday evening. However, the youngest musician ever played to a delighted audience last Wednesday evening.

Wonderboy on the guitar

The boy is only six years old and, despite his age, he can play a guitar better than many adults. The other band members included the boy's father, and all the musicians confirmed that the young lad can play even better than Antony Santos. This seemed a slight exaggeration of course, because Antony Santos is a master on the guitar, and only Raulin Rodriguez comes anywhere close to this level.
But the six-year-old guitarist played extremely well and it was pure delight to see how his tiny fingers produced the most beautiful notes from his guitar. Since he's only six, he's only allowed to perform for 30 minutes, but that was more than enough time to enjoy his wonderful performance.
We're looking forward to next Wednesday evening in the Safari Lounge, to see what else Mario has for us on the 'music menu'.

Blues night? Live Entertainment? Man, we ain't got that shit in Santo Domingo!
Count me in to stop by and spend a couple of bucks. Are they doing anything on weekends? I'm in the big city during the week...
