Getting hijacked by a moto driver

Hey guys--- Beware of using a moto late at night especially if you are travelling alone and are drunk. I left the Classico on a moto and a chica hopped on behind me. I was telling her to get lost while the moto driver headed down Pedro Clisante. She touched his shoulder and he turned down a darkened street. I shouted at him in spanish that my hotel is not this way, stop now. Had to put my feet on the pavement to stop him which he did only when it started to weave and he almost dumped it. I got off and walked the one block remaining to the Europa.

They really know how to spot us when we are drunk. Some expats and a local in POP told me that some moto drivers lately are taking tourists late at night to dark spots where accomplices await. I still use the motos but if the guy goes the wrong way with you watch out.

What all really need to do is get their plate numbers. The Police really do care for our safty and if the catch these guys, they are history.

I stayed with one proven moto driver in POP because I don't know the backstreets that well and a lot of them take shortcuts. So I wouldn't know until it's too late that the guy is taking me to get rolled. I was a little suprised that the guy in Sosua tried it since it is only several blocks and a straight shot to the Europa. He might have thought I was more drunk than I was.

I generally don't drink during my trips but that was my last night in the DR and I cut loose a little. Unless I am across the street from my hotel the drinking is no more when I am in the DR. They are too good at spotting us. I have a better time sober anyway, more tuned in to what's going on and watching the people.
