Cardinal Nicolas de Jesus Lopez Rodriguez described people who party during Easter Week as "inconsequential, superficial, light, clowns, uncultured and without brains". He criticized the artistic performances organized for Easter. Altos de Chavon and Cabarete have programmed major artistic events for Easter Saturday.

The Archbishop of Santo Domingo urged these people to become aware that with their actions they are committing sins that are becoming more and more common amongst humans. The Cardinal said that the only partying there should be is that of the celebration of the resurrection. He urged that there be a renewed awareness of what the sacrifice of Jesus Christ has meant because "there are many that do not understand, and live like animals, as they are missing two legs."

The Cardinal accused the European nations of promoting the Muslim religion vs. Christian religions. "Christians have a great challenge before them. Not only these (Dominicans) who are making comedies, but also those who are fighting against Christianity. The Muslim world does not want to know anything about Christianity."

The Catholic Church announced its church visitation program for Easter, with a focus on the Colonial City churches. On Thursday, the Cardinal will give mass at the Santo Domingo Cathedral at 9 am, and another at 8 pm. A highlight of Easter is the Seven Words sermon from 1 to 3 pm on Friday, delivered by bishops and invited speakers, to be followed by a mass by the Cardinal. At 8 pm, a sacred music concert (Mozart's Requiem) is scheduled for the Cathedral, with the Cathedral choir and the special conducting by French maestro Philippe Entremont.

Sunday resurrection mass is set for 12 noon.
