The hotels in the eastern Dominican Republic are full up, according to the latest reports. While it is a tradition for the nation to greet the Easter Weekend with a stay at the beach, it seems that this year the hotels at Bavaro, El Cortecito and Punta Cana in the east, as well as the hotels in Playa Dorada in the north were fully booked somewhat more in advance than in previous years. According to Hoy 80% of the occupancy is by non-Dominicans, and half of these people are from the United States or Canada and 30% are from Europe. This information was reported by the hotel associations of the East and Playa Dorada. According to sources, the hotels have had reservations for all of their rooms for over a week now. In the east, locals only were able to get 20% of the rooms. Spokesmen from several areas reported on the full occupancy: Ernesto Veloz, president of the Hotels in the East Association and Manuel Finke, the executive director of the Playa Dorada Hotel and Condominium Association concurred that, this year, there 'are no rooms at the inn.' From Bani, Jorge Domenech, who owns Hotel Las Salinas, told Hoy reporters that all three hotels in the area were full. The report indicates that over 40,000 rooms were booked for the weekend in the east and in the Puerto Plata area.
