The recent Gallup-Hoy pool shows that the two major political groups, the PLD party and its allies, the "Progressive Bloc" (PB), and the PRSC-PRD "Pink" Alliance, the "Great National Alliance" (GAN) are shown to be virtually tied in voter's preferences. The GAN was polled at 41.4% of the voters and the PB was polled at 41.75.
The poll also contradicts recent statements coming from the Central Electoral Board JCE, that seem to express fears that there would be massive voter abstention in the upcoming municipal and Congressional elections. According to the Gallup-Hoy poll, 49% say they are sure that they will vote and 41% are "very sure" that they will vote. Only slightly less than 10% said that they were not sure if they were going to vote.
Some of the more telling responses gave the GAN the voter's preferences for most mayors and city councilmen, most Senators, and most deputies. However, with regard to the deputies, the margin was only one percentage point. The largest margin for the voters' preferences was for mayors and city council members. In this category, the "Pink Alliance", so called because the PRSC color is red and the PRD color is white, enjoyed an almost 5% lead over the Progressive Bloc. However, given the statistical variables of such a poll, the newspaper says that there is a virtual tie.
