As of 22 March, spending on Santo Domingo's first Metro line has reached RD$1.505 billion pesos. According to Metro boss and chief architect Diandino Pena, the government has spent RD$1.2 billion on the project itself and RD$232 million on supplies and "other expenses". These numbers are part of the report filed by the OPRET office and reported in Listin Diario.

Drainage and sewage work accounted for RD$99 million, and moving the power lines took another RD$44 million. Nearly RD$10 million was spent on computers and software.

The Metro is the largest construction project ever undertaken in the Dominican Republic, not only in its projected impact but also in its reach. There are 5,000 people working on the project. The Number One line is supposed to go into operation in the spring of 2008. The entire reorganization of public transportation in Santo Domingo is expected to take 25 years at a cost of US$700 million.
