President Leonel Fernandez met with powerful Senate leaders Arlen Specter (R-Pennsylvania) and Jeff Sessions (R-Alabama) over the weekend. The meeting was held at Foreign Minister Carlos Morales Troncoso's home in Casa de Campo, La Romana. One of the central points of the meeting was Fernandez's support for illegal Dominican immigrants currently residing in the United States. According to a press release from Morales Troncoso's office, Senator Specter is said to have promised to initiate new debates on the immigration issues currently before the United States Congress.
