The National Meteorological Office (ONAMET) is predicting that 12 storms will form during Caribbean storm season, of which five will become hurricanes and three are expected to develop into high- intensity storms. ONAMET director Gloria Ceballos said that the increase in storms could be due to the La Nina weather phenomenon and the high amount of rainfall during the winter. Ceballos said that this year would also see above average humidity levels. She continued by saying that DR residents should always be prepared for hurricanes.
