FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (August 24, 2004) – Spirit Airlines, a leading low-fare airline, announced today that starting on November 18, 2004 it will introduce daily non-stop service from Fort Lauderdale to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic with connecting service from Atlantic City, Cancun, Mexico, Chicago/O’Hare, Detroit, NY/LaGuardia, Providence, and Washington, D.C./Reagan National.
"Last winter, we began our 3-phase plan for growth. First, we secured an investment of $125 million from Oaktree Capital Management. Second, we ordered 35 new Airbus aircraft with options to purchase another 50. And third, we are adding new cities and routes to our map this fall," said Jacob Schorr, chief executive officer and president of Spirit Airlines. "Last week we announced service to New England at Providence, Rhode Island’s T.F. Green Airport, and today we are excited to announce service to Santo Domingo. As a Florida-based airline, the Caribbean is an natural extension of our service, and one we are confident the community will embrace."
