I just realized I'm heading for Sosua on Good Friday and spending the next week, including Easter there.

So does anybody have any experience with Easter in the D.R.? Does everything shut down? Do the chicas go home? Should I reschedule my trip?

Or, am I in for the party of my life? Hell, Idunno!!!

Thanks, psriches, but I guess I was too sloppy with my question. I know the beaches get crowded with locals and non-pros. But practically, I don't have more than 1/2 a dozen reliable words of Spanish and, given that I'm in my mid-50s I won't be charming them with my youthful good looks. So for me at least mingling with the locals is likely only to make me very horny and very picked of pocket.

From the posts I couldn't specifically figure out what happens with the pros in Sosua. Is the music and booze ban lifted again this year so the clubs stay open? Or was that just last year? Do the pros go home to let the tourists invade, are they all snatched up by the hords of beach-going tourists or is it business as usual for them? Obviously for those with Spanish this is NOT a problem as there will be a raft of part-timers around.

Or should I just tape an American $100 bill to the front of my pants and go trolling on the beach. Who needs Spanish anyway? Uhhh...sorry officer:eek: , but I don't think that was for you....D-ohhhh... OK, sure it was. My mistake.:(

Generally christmas and easter is the slowest times for girls. Many stays with their familys. In the easter al music is banned for a period, think is 48 hours, I'll guess atleast friday night will be dead.

Taken from previous post by chicarider 1/20/08:

Anyone in town Easter Weekend, looking for something a little different should check out Cabarete Beach. from midnight Friday (no music allowed anywhere from midnight Thursday to Midnight "Good" Friday) until Sunday afternoon is a non-stop (36 hour) beach party with 1000's of people everywhere on the beach...and the streets. Several bandstands and DJ booths, beer bars everywhere and more gorgeous Santiagueras than you could possible count - especially Friday and Sat. night. It's a 98% non-pro scene, but it's fun and pretty crazy - especially if you're into a "rave" sort of scene. This is called Semana Santa (Holy Week) by the way.

I have a trip report about my Semana Santa trip. I booked the trip before I knew what was going on. Then I heard how crowded it was gonna be. I was like "damn!". I went anyway, and had the time of my life. It wasn't as crowded as I expected, except on the beach...but it wasn't too bad. But you have to remember, it is more of a family atmosphere that weekend. You may try to hit on a girl, and her father (real father, not chulo) and brothers may come after you!

Damn...and my Puerto Plata girlfriend's cell phone is now out-of-service for a week and I cannot get hold of her, so even my backup plan looks shot.

Note to self: check the calendar for holidays before quitting job, booking flights or rooms.

Well, I need to relax up for my new job on April 1st anyway I guess  .

The beach was fun but Sosua DIED until midnight Saturday and then I heard it was un-be-fuckin-leavable . . . .

I was rethinking this and it might have started on Thursday . . . the pictures from Lous (Beach) Shark Bar and downtown Sosua must have been on Friday because Saturday was the Bikini Party @ Black Beads and I was a judge so . . . .

Well, honesty always trumps accuracy in my books...it speaks to personal integrity. So hats off to you, Jayman.

But I'm committed now, so I'll let y'all know what Sosua was like on Semana Santa when I return. And hopefully it'll help to straighten out the Jayman's memory a bit...assuming that's a good thing, anyways.

I will be there but that is exactly why I am staying at BB's from march 23 - 27 then returning to Sosua from the afternoon of the 27 - april 3. I would hope that BB's will have many of the chicas because It is close to booked up already for those days and I am sure by the 27th, and I am sure 4 days after easter the chicas shall return to Sosua and the bars and the discoteca scene and the normal chicas of Sosua beach will be up and running regularly. I hope. We shall see.
