Pedro Martinez made history yesterday, pitching for his 200th career victory (84 losses) against the Atlanta Braves 4-3 game at the Mets' Shea stadium. He is only the 102nd player in the history of baseball to have won 200 victories.

After the game, Pedro Martinez told the press he had felt light and especially positive, that it was a special day. He had the full support of the Mets fans that have been quick to adopt him as one of their favorites and fill the stadium whenever he is pitching.

Martinez struck out eight that evening, walked two, and allowed three runs and six hits. Martinez left the games allowing six hits in six innings and two thirds he was in the pitching mound. Martinez joins Juan Marichal (243 career wins) in winning over 200 games and is a likely candidate to enter the Hall of Fame. He is a three-time Cy Young Award winner (1997, 1999 and 2000), Martinez has won all his games so far this season.

He leads the list of all active posts, with a lifetime average of 2.72, .709 percentage of wins.

The Mets, playing without their star player Carlos Beltran (who is off for an injured hamstring), are off to their best start, with 10 wins and two losses, and now have a five-game lead in the National League Eastern Division.
