[DR1] Dogs find drugs in fuel tank

Trained dogs from the National Drug Control Department discovered a haul of 11 kilos of cocaine in a fuel tank of a vehicle that was about to board the ferry to Puerto Rico at Sans Souci port in Santo Domingo. Dominican Eryluin Esteban Almonte was arrested. He said that he received the drugs from Puerto Rican Gilberto Rodriguez who gave him the vehicle in Puerto Rico for transport to the DR and then back to Puerto Rico. He said he would have received US$5,000 if the delivery had been successful. He tried to ship the drugs concealed in a Toyota Road Runner on board the Caribbean Express. DNCD spokesman Buenaventura Bueno Torres said the find is part of the drug control department's increased efficiency in stopping narcotics smuggling at ports and airports of the country.
