[DR1] High Court fires judge

The Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ) fired Judge Samuel de la Cruz for attempting to bribe a colleague into making a biased ruling in a case she was handling. De la Cruz was Justice of the Peace in Santiago when he was found guilty by the SCJ of offering a car and RD$1 million to Instruction Judge Sonja Rodriguez, who did not accept and filed a complaint instead. Judge Rodriguez was cleared of any responsibility in the case. The situation of a third judge originally involved in the case, Genaro Antonio Rodriguez Nunez, was not addressed by the High Court, according to a report in Listin Diario.
