Fancy Metros and costly celebrations are good short-term fixes, but ask Dominicans what they want and most will tell you they'd like increased investment in health and education. This is supported by a Gallup-Hoy poll, which indicates that 60% of the public would like to see more money invested in health while 58% said they would invest public money in education. Other points of concern for citizens are the need for job creation and improvements in the country's costly and deficient electricity service. The Gallup poll was conducted between the 16 February and 20 February and 1,200 people were interviewed. The margin of error is 2.8%. According to the poll, the principal problems for citizens included inflation, the high cost of living, lack of jobs, crime and constant blackouts. The poll also reveals that 97% of those polled believed that there was corruption in this current administration. Still, only 32% believe that corruption during this administration is more rampant than during Hipolito Mejia's government, while 27% think it's the same and 39% think there is less.
