The Dominican Medical Association (CMD), at the very least, will have the opportunity to discuss their concerns and demands with public health officials at noon today. The meeting is the outcome of the 24-hour strike held last week by public hospital doctors and by threats by CMD head Waldo Ariel Suero that longer and more devastating strikes could come soon if demands aren't met. The meeting will take place at the office of Public Health minister Bautista Rojas Gomez, but doctors are saying that they doubt that a solution will be announced today. Rojas was more optimistic, saying he hoped that the meeting would put a stop to the constant threat of hospital strikes. Hacienda Minister Vicente Bengoa has been staunch in his rejection of doctors' demands, saying that any pay raises, which doctors are asking for, will only be considered after July.
