The Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (Funglode) and Major League Baseball are coming together for a conference, "The Impact of the Industry of Major League Baseball in the Dominican Republic." The event will focus on the economic and social impact of baseball, the challenges to the continued growth of the industry and how the country could gain more with its relation with the MLB that is considered unique in the world. Joe Garagiola, senior vice president of MLB will participate in the discussions. Also speaking at the conference will be Omar Minaya, general manager of the New York Mets and first Latin general manager in the Major Leagues; Lou Melendez, international vice president for MLB; Ronaldo Peralta, manager of the DR office and John Seibel, advisor of the MLB. The event is scheduled for Thursday, 20 April at 7 pm at the Funglode Auditorium and is open to public attendance.
