According to Armando Casciati (owner of the Merengue Club, Hotel Sosúa Bay, Victoria Hotel and the casino), Sosúa's new casino should be completed in July this year (at least the ground floor). The complex has been expanded so much that the costs have gotten somewhat out of hand, so some delay in the construction planning means that the costs can be better distributed over the entire year. Every peso that Armando spends on his casino first needs to be earned.
The 'El Nuevo Norte' thinks there's more behind this delay. This digital newspaper reports that an error has occurred, whereby part of the casino is being built on land belonging to somebody else. The owners of this land are apparently demanding USD 300,000 in compensation. The question here is why the owners have only just complained about the error, now that the casino is in its final stages of construction. Shouldn't they have said something earlier, when construction first started?

The problems would undoubtedly have been easier to resolve at that time.

It is most unusual to encounter delays in construction and disputes over land ownership in the Dominican Republic.

So the old and new casinos are under the same ownership? Why would he want to compete against himself? There is no capacity problem at the existing casino, is there?

I would take anything printed in "Sosua News" with a grain of salt.
Let's wait and see this printed in one of the more newsworthy sources.

There are at least 50 workers laying cement and painting, the disco on the ground floor is 95% finished as of last week. Beautiful lights, speakers, 2 large bars and VIP areas. It is larger than Classico!

Speaking of casinos, i have a question or two. Not sure if many of you guys go to the casino in sosua or not.(casino playa chiquita)

I was there a few years back when the texas holdem boom was just beginning in the dominican. They didnt have much action at the texas holdem tables however when i was there.

I was wondering if anyone knew or had any insight on this game? Is it still being played? Is it being played most nights? If so, any details? I think i play a decent game of poker and wouldnt mind trying to fund my chica account a bit by partaking in this game a few nights. Thanks

sometimes a business will protect itself by covering its flank premptively. meaning he beat any potential competition to the punch. gotta admit that the new location at the moment is a lot more advantageous, since the other side of town seems so dead. maybe he'll sell the older one since he's got a prime spot.
