The Dominican Republic has been selected by Columbia Pictures and Imagine Entertainment for inclusion in the list of countries that will be able to see the simultaneous world premiere of "The Da Vinci Code" on 18 May. The controversial film, starring Ron Howard, Tom Hanks, Audrey Tautou, Ian McKellen, Alfred Molina, Jurgen Prochnow and Jean Reno is an adaptation of the international best seller by Dan Brown that has sold over 40 million copies worldwide. It will premiere simultaneously in the DR and in the US, other Latin American countries, Europe and Asia. In the DR, it will be showing in 60 cinema halls. The Da Vinci Code is based on a fictional mystery thriller that presents the story of renowned semiotics professor Robert Langdon (Hanks) who arrives at the Louvre Museum the night one of the curators has been murdered leaving behind a series of mysterious symbols and clues. Putting his own life at risk, Langdon, assisted by police cryptographist Sophie Neveu (Tautou) discovers a series of impressive secrets hidden in the works of Leonardo Da Vinci, all leading to a clandestine society dedicated to safeguarding an ancient mystery that has been kept secret for the past 2000 years.
