Francesca Segarelli and Diana Espinal advanced to the finals of Group II yesterday in the International Tennis Federation's Davis Cup. This is the closest the DR has been to moving beyond Group II in the Davis Cup American Zone competition. The DR women will play Bolivia today. If the DR defeats Bolivia, it will be the first time a DR team qualifies to play in Group I of the Americas Zone. The event is organized by the Dominican Tennis Federation.
Diana Espinal, Francesca Segarelli, Chanda Capozzi, Katherine Hoepelman represent the DR. Team captain is Elvis Espinal.
The Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Americas Zone Group II event is being played at Parque del Este, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic from 17-20 April.
In the men's Americas Zone Group II 2006 2nd Round held 7-9 April in Netherlands Antilles, the Dominican Republic defeated the Netherlands Antilles 3-2 in the hands of Victor Estrella and Jhonson Garcia.
