Many candidates running for positions in the May 16 midterm elections are registered to vote in jurisdictions other than those for which they are running, and are thus unable to vote for themselves. Diario Libre reports that an example is Amilcar Romero, who is the PLD candidate for Senator in Duarte Province, but will be voting at Colegio Babeque in the National District. Also, PRSC candidate for deputy in Santo Domingo Este Jose Osvaldo Leger will be able to vote for his son Jochy, who is running for deputy in San Cristobal, but will not be able to vote for himself as he is not registered in the location for which he is running. Another case is Isabel Bonilla, the PLD candidate for deputy in Maria Trinidad Sanchez Province, who votes in Santiago, where she was previously elected for the same position in 1998. There are extreme cases in minority parties where there are candidates who represent provinces on the Haitian border, but vote in Santo Domingo. PRSC candidate for Senator of Santo Domingo province Victor Gomez Berges is registered to vote in the National District and will thus have to vote for his colleague Johnny Jones, and not for himself.
