National Dialogue Coordinator and Chancellor of Pontificia Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra, Msgr. Agripino Nunez Collado, asked the government to reinstate the fuel-saving measures used last year, as he considers that "we cannot remain indifferent" in the face of the constant increases in the price of oil on the international market. He reminded that the Executive Branch has the responsibility for setting an example in terms of energy saving, according to a report in Diario Libre.
On the other hand, President Leonel Fernandez believes that the government is employing the correct approach to the oil price increases by substituting light bulbs, installing two coal-based energy generating plants and the elimination of 14,000 "publico" cars. "If the oil import bill depends basically on transportation and energy, the government is taking measures and continues to apply an effective energy-saving policy", stated the President.
