Unions on strike at the Universidad Autonoma de Santo Domingo (UASD) decided to maintain their position after two hours of negotiation over a proposal for a 10% raise made by the university chancellor Roberto Reyna. According to Diario Libre, Reyna said yesterday morning that a 10% salary increase would increase the UASD budget deficit by another RD$18 million, as it would represent an additional monthly expenditure increase of RD$8 million. Reyna also warned that if the strike does not end on Monday, the summer term would have to be cancelled. Meanwhile, dozens of students protested against the suspension of academic activities. During the protest, the students blocked Calle San Luis for over a half hour, leading to intervention by police and AMET officers.
