PLD strategist Temistocles Montas, who is also Minister of Economy, has announced contacts with the Organization of American States (OAS) and the United States State Department as part of the preparations for sending observers to the 2008 Presidential elections in May. The PLD also announced a conference call to the Carter Center as part of the ongoing process of inviting international observers to the elections. Montas said that he had met with Thomas Shannon, the State Department official in charge of overseeing election processes in the hemisphere. Recent polls show President Leonel Fernandez winning in a first round of the election.
